JUMAIDA IN HOSPITAL

Jumai­da was tak­en in last Tues­day for her fol­low up lab test to make sure all her malar­ia was gone. The malar­ia was gone, but the Dr. didn’t like her oth­er lab results. Due to her lack of appetite after com­plet­ing her malar­ia treat­ment, her blood sug­ar was down, and she just didn’t have much ener­gy. The Dr. decid­ed to admit her for a few days of med­ica­tions and IV therapy.

As of Fri­day, she is improv­ing slow­ly. SHE NEEDS THE HEALING TOUCH OF OUR LORD. 

Jumai­da is the true def­i­n­i­tion of “fail­ure to thrive”. At 2 years of age, she is only 7.5 kg/16.5 lbs. We have tried every­thing to increase her appetite and help her gain weight, but she isn’t inter­est­ed in eat­ing much. Please pray for her, as the med­ical staff have no answers to help improve her present con­di­tion beyond what we are already doing. 


RETURNING TO SCHOOL ON MONDAY—HALLALUJAH!

Our 20 school age chil­dren received their 2026 school sup­plies today because MONDAY, March 2, class­es begin.

Final­ly, after a month’s delay due to severe flood­ing in south­ern Mozam­bique, all schools nation­wide are being allowed to open. The flood­ing was so severe that the only high­way con­nect­ing the South to the North of Mozam­bique was closed for weeks.

The chil­dren are hap­py, as they are ready to get back into school activities.

JUMAIDA SUFFERS SETBACK

Mon­day this week, Jumaida’s body began to swell in all limbs plus her face. This usu­al­ly means ane­mia, but her lab work showed a Hemo­glo­bin of 9.9. The cul­prit proved to be a mild case of malar­ia caus­ing a pro­tein defi­cien­cy. She was placed on med­ica­tion, and sent home with orders for a high pro­tein diet of eggs, Hypo cere­al, and sev­er­al vitamins.

We will be giv­ing her the same foods that helped our Ergilsia to over­come her pro­tein defi­cien­cy. Lots of prayer pow­er need­ed, as she is only 7.5 kg at 2 years of age. Jumai­da is the only infant we have that refus­es to grow, no mat­ter what we feed her.She is very weak now due to the med­i­cine killing her appetite.

2 ANGELS GROWING UP TOGETHER

Both of our Angeli­nas (means Angel), one  6 years old and the oth­er 17 years old, have grown up togeth­er in the same home here at our mis­sion. Even though they are NOT blood relat­ed, they are clos­er than any blood relat­ed sis­ters could be.

Doing lit­tle Angelina’s hair is one way that the old­er Angeli­na shows her love for her lit­tle house mate.I took this pho­to at our CIS lun­cheon this last Sat­ur­day. The hair­do on lit­tle Angeli­na was excep­tion­al, and when I asked who did her hair, she point­ed to her old­er house mate, Angelina.

Our chil­dren are so car­ing for each oth­er, and except for our 2 sets of twins, it is hard to believe they are not blood rel­a­tives.

The rains con­tin­ue in earnest, so we have been ditch dig­ging and build­ing water diver­sion dams to try and con­trol the run off.

3 ORPHANS ADMITTED TO FOOD PROGRAM

These 3 lit­tle girls, ages 4, 5, and 6, and their grand­moth­er walked into our mis­sion sta­tion on Tues­day this week. The girl’s moth­er had just passed away from a long­time ill­ness. The father left them over 3 years ago just before the moth­er became ill.  

It was obvi­ous the granny need­ed all the help she could get. We start­ed by imme­di­ate­ly giv­ing her a 2‑day food sup­ply. They came on Thurs­day this week to our week­ly food give out, tak­ing home a whole sack of rice, plus a 2‑week sup­ply of beans, soap, and salt.

At our next give out, thanks to your love gifts, we will orga­nize cloth­ing for them. The rains have caused a cloth­ing short­age, since sup­ply trucks couldn’t get through some areas of the coun­try. Children’s sizes are in very short sup­ply, so we must wait until a new ship­ment arrives at the local mar­ket. 

INFANT FORMULA PROGRAM ESSENTIAL FOR NEWBORNS 

Under 90 days, an infant is total­ly depen­dent on milk for­mu­la to sur­vive. Week­ly, we admit an aver­age of 2 to 3 infants to our Thurs­day Infant For­mu­la Pro­gram and weigh in.

These 2 pho­tos show the 2 infants admit­ted in Feb­ru­ary so far. The 3‑week-old lit­tle boy came in on Feb. 2nd, as his moth­er per­ished due to dif­fi­cul­ties after childbirth.

The 9‑day-old lit­tle boy joined our milk pro­gram on Wednes­day, Feb. 10th. His moth­er also per­ished due to dif­fi­cul­ties after giv­ing birth. He was kept hydrat­ed by his aunt who is in the back of the pho­to. She nursed him his first week, along with her own infant. He will be tak­en care of by the aunt who is hold­ing him.

Only 9 days old, this baby boy is in the arms of an Aunt who loves him.

PRAISE REPORT!

ERGILSIA, the 2‑year-old girl who suf­fered severe ane­mia after a bad case of malar­ia, is now WALKING with bal­anc­ing help and her Hgb on Thurs­day was up to 10!!! This is tru­ly a heal­ing from the Lord, because noth­ing any­one did seemed to help her red blood count to rise towards nor­mal. She had an 8.6 Hgb 30 days ago. Our entire staff is super hap­py over this!

TRULY A LIFE SAVING RESCUE 

On Thurs­day, a father who’d lost his wife 3 weeks ago, brought his mal­nour­ished 6‑month-old son named Deni­sio (Dee-knees-ee-oh) for his 2nd weigh in for infant for­mu­la. After 7 days in his Father’s care, Denisio’s weight had dropped 200 grams from the pre­vi­ous week, which he couldn’t afford to lose since he is the size of a 4‑month-old.

The milk in the baby bot­tle was sour, and the infant was sick with a mild fever, and an upper res­pi­ra­to­ry infec­tion. The father obvi­ous­ly need­ed help. The relief on the father’s face was imme­di­ate­ly obvi­ous when we offered to assist him for up to 8 months by car­ing for the infant until it could eat nor­mal food. He had his hands full car­ing for his oth­er 3 children.

This very respon­si­ble young father was obvi­ous­ly doing his best, as he seemed pro­fi­cient in car­ing for his oth­er 3 chil­dren. For a Father of 4 to take on this type of respon­si­bil­i­ty is rare here, so we go all out to help a man who is tru­ly try­ing to save his fam­i­ly.

As soon as I saw this lit­tle one, I knew in my heart that he had malar­ia. No out­ward signs were vis­i­ble, but I knew that I knew this baby had hid­den malar­ia. He was tak­en imme­di­ate­ly to the hos­pi­tal for test­ing, and an hour lat­er the malar­ia test was pos­i­tive. He was placed in the arms of Fos­ter Moth­er Argenti­na, and his treat­ments for malar­ia and his Upper Res­pi­ra­to­ry Infec­tion were start­ed imme­di­ate­ly. He is not in hos­pi­tal since he is old enough to take oral med­ica­tion. 

JESUS SAVES is not just a slo­gan, but a truth. If we had just looked at the obvi­ous signs, giv­en the father the milk, and then sent them home, the infant could have eas­i­ly per­ished. His Hemo­glo­bin is low, only 8.6. Below 8 he would need a trans­fu­sion, as the body can’t fight off dis­ease with a poor blood sup­ply. THANKS TO YOUR LOVE GIFTS, Deni­sio can live with us so we can mon­i­tor his sit­u­a­tion and pro­vide what is need­ed.

Being sen­si­tive to the Holy Spirit’s “small still voice” is so essen­tial for all of us in every­day life. We appre­ci­ate your prayers for us, as we now have 39 lit­tle ones under 3, and that is a big job for all our staff.

It has been a heavy rain week, with lit­tle going on but essen­tial jobs to sup­port the chil­dren. The major flood­ing in south­ern Mozam­bique has delayed the open­ing of the schools. School will not begin until March, so at least we have time to get the children’s uni­forms com­plet­ed. Feb­ru­ary hap­pens to be the heav­i­est rain month each year, so we live with the mud and do what we can.
