BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR THE ORPHANS!
SUPER FUN! 106 ORPHANS IN OUR CARE ALL READY FOR A RICE AND GOAT FEAST FOR THEIR PARTY After bustling around all week preparing for corn buying, our staff decided to wrap up the month with our annual “CHILDREN’S DAY BIRTHDAY PARTY” on May 30th.
ABBIE, CAITLIN, AND DAWN GIVE OUT COOKIES AND GIANT SUCKERS, YUM ! EARNISTINE SERVES A FESTIVE MEAL OF RICE AND GOAT TO SOME OF OUR CHILDREN. Normally held on June 1st, National Children’s Day in Mozambique, we moved it up for an important reason. The younger children are out of school on Monday to celebrate this holiday, but our 11 high school students must attend classes. Couldn’t let them miss their own birthday party! (Since we don’t know most of the children’s true birthdays, all 106 of them celebrate together on this day.) Our Youth Pastors provided Christian music with the new sound system the children donated to the church. The children love to sing and dance to this music. Basketball and soccer games, went on simultaneous to girl’s competition jump rope, and sack races, while the younger children had a fun time on the swings and giant slide. In preparation for the party, all 106 orphans received new clothes which they proudly wore to the party. Our party feast included a goat and rice plate, followed by Birthday treats–packet of cookies, a balloon, and 2 giant suckers of different types. (bubble gum and yogurt) Yummy!
LITTLE DIXON, AGE FOUR, WAITED PATIENTLY AS THE LAST PERSON IN LINE, SO HE COULD HAVE HELP IN BLOWING UP HIS BALLOON. Needless to say, the 4 hour party was a great success! CORN IN THE BARN FOR MONDAY’S KICK OFF! The government has been super cooperative in letting us fetch food a few days early this year, since beans and corn are in short supply. Today, we weighed, and stored 300+ sacks (154lbs./70kg each) of corn so we can jump right in to processing it for storage early Monday. BUSY WEEK AHEAD, as we hope to buy and store 200 TONS of corn in our barn in the next 12 days. Yesterday, our staff and I handpicked 80 men to help us accomplish our goal. It will be a bit “corny” around here for the next 2 weeks, (counting corn sacks in our sleep), but the sacrifice is worth it. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR HELP! Without the Orphans Unlimited Family of contributors, and our fabulous staff (both in the USA and Moz.) over 2,500 orphans and widows would suffer severe malnutrition that could kill them. Blessings to all of you! Bush Bunny Brenda Lange Dawn Horger Corn Crunching Visitors from Texas: Caitlin Pruitt Abbie Wheeler |
