| TRULY A LIFE SAVING RESCUE On Thursday, a father who’d lost his wife 3 weeks ago, brought his malnourished 6‑month-old son named Denisio (Dee-knees-ee-oh) for his 2nd weigh in for infant formula. After 7 days in his Father’s care, Denisio’s weight had dropped 200 grams from the previous week, which he couldn’t afford to lose since he is the size of a 4‑month-old. The milk in the baby bottle was sour, and the infant was sick with a mild fever, and an upper respiratory infection. The father obviously needed help. The relief on the father’s face was immediately obvious when we offered to assist him for up to 8 months by caring for the infant until it could eat normal food. He had his hands full caring for his other 3 children. |

| This very responsible young father was obviously doing his best, as he seemed proficient in caring for his other 3 children. For a Father of 4 to take on this type of responsibility is rare here, so we go all out to help a man who is truly trying to save his family. As soon as I saw this little one, I knew in my heart that he had malaria. No outward signs were visible, but I knew that I knew this baby had hidden malaria. He was taken immediately to the hospital for testing, and an hour later the malaria test was positive. He was placed in the arms of Foster Mother Argentina, and his treatments for malaria and his Upper Respiratory Infection were started immediately. He is not in hospital since he is old enough to take oral medication. JESUS SAVES is not just a slogan, but a truth. If we had just looked at the obvious signs, given the father the milk, and then sent them home, the infant could have easily perished. His Hemoglobin is low, only 8.6. Below 8 he would need a transfusion, as the body can’t fight off disease with a poor blood supply. THANKS TO YOUR LOVE GIFTS, Denisio can live with us so we can monitor his situation and provide what is needed. Being sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s “small still voice” is so essential for all of us in everyday life. We appreciate your prayers for us, as we now have 39 little ones under 3, and that is a big job for all our staff. It has been a heavy rain week, with little going on but essential jobs to support the children. The major flooding in southern Mozambique has delayed the opening of the schools. School will not begin until March, so at least we have time to get the children’s uniforms completed. February happens to be the heaviest rain month each year, so we live with the mud and do what we can. THANK YOU for partnering with us, so that these babies might live.
