JUMAIDA WITH COMPLICATIONS On Monday, Jumaida needed an emergency blood transfusion. The malaria she had just defeated caused her hemoglobin to drop dangerously low (8.4 down to 6.4 in 5 days)! That’s a true emergency! The call came at 3pm as the hospital staff needed permission for the transfusion. I was impressed as the hospital staff had her transfusion completed by 6:30pm! To accomplish this, they had to call in a donor, get the blood processed, and then give it to Jumaida. We have a dedicated nurse who gives us a great helping hand by staying with our sick infants until their transfusion is completed. This transfusion brought her up to 9.4, which is safe.

But the story continues, as Jumaida’s low immunity caused her mouth to break out in sores. She wouldn’t eat or drink on Thursday, so the Dr. restarted her IV fluids with Dextrose to lift her blood sugar. Her appetite returned during the night, and she actually ate and drank early Friday for the first time in 24 hours. As you can see, this little girl is very fragile. She needs LOTS of prayer because her body isn’t wanting to function as it should. Thank you for being so faithful to pray for her. MOVING UP IN THE WORLD! Four little boys, who are now 5 to 6 years old, were moved this week from the Lion and Ostrich Homes into the school age house for boys. Foster Mother Milka resides with them. They are not grown up enough to function alone, yet we must get them ready for big kid school in 10 months time. That is why Milka is there to help them with everyday activities like getting dressed, bathing, etc.

They will graduate from the Little Disciples (kindergarten) in November, 2026, and face a whole new adventure as they start school in February, 2027. This house has a Foster Father, Samuel, as boys this age need the presence of a father figure. This will give us more room for younger toddlers in the Lion House, as all our children are growing up fast, especially the 2‑year-old group! VISITORS CHECK OUT OUR PROGRAM On Wednesday, the head of our District/County came to visit our children, and he brought 4 visitors as well. Since the older children were in school, we took the visitors to meet the under 5‑year-olds and their Foster Mothers. They were impressed with our homes and facilities for the children, and ended up touring 3 of the 4 homes for babies and toddlers.
