FROM: Bush Bun­ny Bren­da DATE: March 16, 2024 BABY BOY GILDO, 32ND INFANT JOINS OUR FAMILY Baby Gildo, 3 months old, weighed in at our Infant For­mu­la Day on Thurs­day, March 14th at only 3.8kg (a lit­tle over 8 lbs.), down from 3.95kg on March 1st. Born on Decem­ber 16, 2023, Gildo’s moth­er passed away when he was only 2 weeks old. Gildo was born in Nairo­bi vil­lage about 20km/12 miles from Bala­ma. He was imme­di­ate­ly reg­is­tered into our milk pro­gram on Jan­u­ary 3rd when his Grand­moth­er request­ed help. The infant was left with the grand­moth­er who strug­gled on Thurs­day, the 14th, to walk the 12 miles to get for­mu­la for him. Sad­ly, Gildo is now in crit­i­cal con­di­tion with the loss of anoth­er 150 grams. This tells us the infant is suf­fer­ing star­va­tion as the grand­moth­er isn’t able to meet his needs. She glad­ly gave the infant to us, as she real­ized it was best so he would not per­ish. One of our BBC mem­bers glad­ly took the Grand­moth­er home on his motor­bike, tak­ing only 1 hour as com­pared to her all day walk to get to us.

The severe­ly mal­nour­ished Gildo was placed with Fos­ter Moth­er Fran­quina in House #7 as he is in crit­i­cal con­di­tion, but sur­pris­ing­ly not sick. His severe mal­nu­tri­tion will be over­come soon with lots of love and plen­ty of baby for­mu­la. Our fos­ter moth­ers are mir­a­cle work­ers for sure! We will adjust his diet slow­ly, and hope to have him eat­ing infant rice cere­al in the next 2 weeks. OUR EVER-GROWING FAMILY I caught some can­did shots of two of our 1‑year-olds as they tried out their legs this week. It was hilar­i­ous and super hard to catch a good shot.Afusa, now walk­ing, is an expert at mov­ing fast and hid­ing behind the oth­er children.

Last but not least, our Reginia is now 3 weeks old and doing well after her bout with malaria.
