MILAGRE GETS HIS CAST OFF! Mila­gre was released on Wednes­day from the hos­pi­tal after his 7‑day anti-malar­ia treat­ment. Office Admin­is­tra­tor Cape­na made an appoint­ment for Thurs­day to have Milagre’s cast removed as his X‑RAY showed his femur bone is healed! PTL!

Mila­gre gets his cast off!

He is a bit stiff after being cast­ed for almost 5 weeks, but that is to be expect­ed. With a bit of phys­i­cal ther­a­py by his Fos­ter Moth­er and I, he will soon be up and walk­ing. He can bear weight now with­out a prob­lem, but is afraid to take a step. Once he real­izes he can walk again, there will be no stop­ping him!

ERGILCIA NOW STANDING ON HER OWN While check­ing on the lit­tle ones at the Ostrich House, I was amazed to see 15-month-old Ergilcia now stand­ing on her own! Fos­ter Moth­er Tina has done a great job of rais­ing this lit­tle baby from a 4.4 lb./ 2kg infant to a strong 15-month-old. She is a bit behind in her devel­op­ment, but will soon catch up as she has many “sib­lings” at her house to show her the way.

DOMINGAS AND JORGE IN HOSPITAL WITH MALARIA Severe malar­ia that caus­es high fever and vom­it­ing is ram­pant right now in our area. No mat­ter how hard we try to keep our lit­tle ones cov­ered with nets, those pesky mos­qui­tos still man­age to find that ten­der baby skin. On Mon­day, Domin­gas, who was out play­ing ball last week, had to be admit­ted with vom­it­ing and high fever. He was pos­i­tive for Malaria.

Thurs­day at noon, I was down exer­cis­ing Milagre’s leg when the Head Moth­er, Gil­da, brought Jorge to me. He had just vom­it­ed, and his fever was 39C/102F! I raced him to the hos­pi­tal, where IV treat­ments were start­ed imme­di­ate­ly. He is one sick lit­tle boy, as this came on very quickly.

Jorge upon admis­sion is one sick lit­tle boy. He is wrapped in a very wet cot­ton cloth to help bring down his high fever.
