It’s All About Teamwork!
IT’S ALL ABOUT TEAM WORK!
June 10, 2017
YOUR PRAYERS WERE ANSWERED, for we had a smooth time of corn and bean buying without one accident!
Our 3 truck crews of 9 men each, and the 75 man barn crew showed great skill in getting the job done. The program ran smoother than I’ve ever seen it happen.
NAVIGATING THIS LADDER OF BEAN SACKS ‚WITH A SACK ON YOUR HEAD, REVEALS THE STRENGTH OF THESE YOUNG MEN.
It was exhausting work for all of us, but our team showed remarkable strength by weighing and transporting a record 900 SACKS LAST MONDAY!
A total of 182 TONS of CORN (3034 sacks) were processed and stacked.
An additional 115 tons of beans were also brought in and stacked.
Each sacks weighs 132 lbs./60 kg., and is lifted 4 times before being stacked into our barns, awaiting distribution.
IN EVERTHING WE DO, JESUS IS THE CENTER!
I’m very happy for many of the “day workers” came to know Jesus through our morning devotions at the barn.
We started each day in the dark so no photos were possible. It is winter during June and July, so the horizon doesn’t lighten until 5:15 a.m.
Our truck teams reported at 3:45 a.m. daily as the trucks rolled out by 4 a.m. for the distant villages where they weighed and loaded the corn. (That meant de Bunny had to roll out at 3:15 each day.)
Barn work started at 4:30 a.m. with set up as we waited for the team to arrive each morning for 5 a.m. devotions.
BEAUTIFUL HARVEST MOON OVER BALAMA.
This is the largest men’s choir in all of Balama, and their singing could be heard over 1 KM away (1000 yards).
On the last day of corn buying (day 8), all but 6 men repeated the prayer of salvation to receive eternal life through Jesus.
TEAMWORK IN ACTION.
EIGHT is God’s number of new beginnings, which made me very happy.
For it is not only the lives of orphans who are being saved through this program, but PTL it is saving the men who made it happen!
NOTHING BUT THE LOVE OF JESUS OPENS THE HARDENED HEARTS OF AN UNBELIEVER.
GILDO, YOUNGEST OF THE B B C TEAM, SHOWS US HIS “CORN ART”, WHILE WAITING FOR THE LAST TRUCK TO ARRIVE.
Our great thanks to all of those who gave into this program so that over 2,000 orphans will not go hungry.
Now, with a smile on our faces because a tough job is behind us, we happily return to our “normal” schedules until the July corn buying rolls around.
Blessings,

| VISITORS COMING TO BALAMA THIS WEEK
Two of our USA friends, Dave and Larry, will be arriving this week to teach and take a look at our current programs. The whole BAWANA program came into “being” here because of Dave’s vision for our children in Mozambique. Dave introduced me to Larry, and the vision became a reality a year later. Larry began training our Pastors and BBC groups over 5 years ago in the BAWANA games technique for child evangelism. Their labors have produced much fruit (as shown in the next article below). We are very excited to host them so they can see their vision in action. Tuesday and Wed. our Pastors will be meeting with Larry for Bible training. He’ll be teaching interactive ways to reach out with the Gospel to all ages. Thursday and Friday they will assist in food distributions and at a BAWANA games program in a remote village.
Early Saturday (19th) our Bawana leaders will be in at the MANGO TREE CHURCH in Mavala to host the 2nd annual BAWANA GAMES COMPETITION between 4 remote villages. 6 a.m. Sunday, they will do the same in Balama with 4 teams from that area. God’s Word along with candy, cookies, and loads of fun awaits all those who attend the 2 competitions!
Tell you all about it in 2 weeks. There will be NO BLOG next weekend due the above programs.

BUSY DAYS IN MOZAMBIQUE
Bush Beat BlogF
FROM “BUSH BUNNY BRENDA”DATE: Sept.24,2016
FALLING FROM A TREE TODAY SERIOUSLY INJURES ONE OF OUR ORPHANSAs I was busy writing this blog, 3 neighborhood men walked up to my home carrying 9 year old orphan, Fernando. He was unconscious after taking a face first fall from a mango tree nearby. Seems his grandmother was working in her field, and did not know Fernando had run off with 2 of his buddies to climb this tree out in the bush.. His “friends” ran off and left him when he fell, for he was unconscious after hitting the ground. When the 2 men found him unconscious, they put him in a sling and carried him to my house. I am so grateful these men found him, or he could have been laying out there for many hours before anyone missed his presence.Thankfully, he began to open his eyes and tried to sit up, as we placed him on a mattress in the back of my pick-up truck. I thought these men would then leave, but they jumped right in and helped me take him to the hospital. At the Emergency Room, we were met by Dr. Namposa who immediately started an IV of Mannatol (drug that reduces brain swelling). As I write this, Fernando opened his eyes and cried when his IV was started, but did not show any fight. He is disoriented and unable to speak. He did respond with a head shake and cries of pain as we touched his ribs. This ribs are badly bruised at the least, but there are no obvious fractures. Please excuse me as I cut this blog short, I will be going back to the hospital.I’ll keep you posted as it will be at least 24 hours before we know how bad his head injury is.SEPTEMBER FOOD GIVE OUTS A DUSTY JOBThis 12 year old girl fetching BEANS. She came alone to fetch food for her and her grandmother who is too weak to make the walk to the distribution sit
Baby Sandra, 14 months and now walking well, enjoys playing with the rim from a bicycle. Our children enjoy simple toys, and many of the older children make their own toys. Sparks imagination and improves their construction skills.Sunday school leaders, Bertino and Daude using our little boy and lion puppets to teach the children that Rebellion is a sin with dire consequences. (Little boy skipped school, and went to play in the woods. The lion found him and ate him up, for he was playing where he was not supposed to be.) We try to keep our stories as culturally sensitive as possible, as it helps the story “stick”.Girls Sunday afternoon soccer competition a bit hit with the neighborhood children.Capena, our office manager who doubles as our expert orphan field rep. (in coordination with Social Services and the 22 village leaders), visited the homes of 1138 orphans and their grandmothers or aunts. These children live in 22 different villages scattered across Balama District, so it’s a BIG JOB that takes at least 12 long days to accomplish. The objective is to determine which homes with orphans still need our food assistance, and who is now able to be independent. The numbers below reflect the hard work performed by our 10 man team who loads and unloads EACH SACK (132 lbs/60kg) BY HAND, or rather African style “on their HEAD”. It’s hard work, but our team of very strong men make it look easy. Our visitors who have tried lifting the sacks can tell you it’s not a job for weaklings. With our 2 trucks handling 4 to 5 tons per load ( weights must be reduced due to bad roads), these give outs are a 4 to 6 hour event at each distribution site (depending on the distance we must travel). Our closest distribution is only 9 miles out in the bush (45 minute drive), but the remaining sites are between 12 and 18 miles into the bush. Ninety minutes is the norm to cover those 18 miles on rough, dusty, dirt roads with many holes.September’s give out amounts are as follows:CORN: 20.1 TONS (334 sacks)BEANS: 5.69 TONS (540)SOAP: 19 CASES (1138 pieces)SALT: 18 SACKS (360 kg/2.2 lbs)No forklifts here, just a lot of strong men who know how to handle these sacks.Blessings,Bush Bunny Brenda LangeBalama Staff

ANGELICA, A 2ND CHANCE CHILD
Eight year old Angelica came to us as an infant, barely a month old.Her grandmother threw the baby into a field to die, for her daughter was dead. Grandma felt hopeless for there was no milk for the crying infant. The grandmother later told us that she felt it more merciful for the baby to die that day versus suffer a slow death from starvation because she had no way to buy milk. But Angelica’s 10 years old sister didn’t agree. She snatched the baby out of the field after the grandmother walked away.
Taking the baby to a nearby neighbor who had an infant of her own, she begged her friend to suckle the baby.
The neighbor agreed and also got several other women to suckle the baby over the next few days. But 3 days later, they realized they could not give the baby all it needed.
Note: These women did this without their husbands knowledge, for it is against their culture to suckle a baby who is not a family member.
But a neighboring man DID FIND OUT. Gratefully, his reaction was one of kindness. He told the desperate 10 year old, that if she truly wanted to save her sister, that she should take the baby to Mama Brenda in Balama town 27 km (16 miles) away. It was a long walk, but this kind neighbor man escorted the Sister and baby the entire distance to our house. A bottle of formula later, and Angelica was a happy camper.
Social Services investigated, and agreed the baby should remain with us, for the grandmother was not interested in raising the baby.
We offered the orphaned Sister a place to stay with us, but she felt she should stay and help her grandmother.YOUR LOVE GIFTS PROVIDE 2ND CHANCES TO 100’S OF CHILDREN JUST LIKE ANGELICA
Their stories would fill a book, but many of these “miracle rescues” are unknown even to me.
Saying thank you for your love gifts seems hardly adequate, but know that Jesus sees your heart and your reward awaits you in heaven.KIDS FLOCKING TO JESUS!
Seeing a vision become a reality is truly amazing! Since my arrival in Balama, I envisioned strong evangelistic teams doing just what our Youth Pastors are doing now. WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG? We had to wait for the “boys” to become men! For God literally raised these teams up from the local children.
BAWANA MOTORBIKE TEAM A: (L‑R) Daniel, Carlitos Jorge, Ambrosio, and Estevan.
BAWANA MOTORBIKE TEAM B: Gildo, Rufino, Armando, and Salimo.6,500+/week attend the games with Carlitos Jorge’s Friday, Saturday, Sunday motorbike team. (2 teams of 4 men travel on 4 motorbikes)
Bertino and Daude have opened Bawana games and girls soccer competitions in 2 small villages just outside Balama. (340+ kids each Friday and Saturday)The 6 man BBC bicycle team are touching 22 villages each Monday through Friday, reaching another 1,100 children/week with the gospel for Jesus.Current total: 7,940+ children hearing the gospel weekly.BAWANA GAMES STAFF TO OPEN 5 NEW VILLAGES THIS WEEK!Our AWANA GAMES program, now loving called BAWANA Games (Balama+Awana) by the local children. This coming Thursday (it’s school holidays for the next 3 weeks), Carlitos Jorge’s 8 man team now has the needed credentials to open Bawana games in 5 very, very remote villages. These villages are spread across the foot of a small mountain range, 12 km (7.2 miles) behind my house. Only ONE of these villages has a small church. The rest are considered “unreached”. The whole team is very, very excited to be “pioneering” this area for Jesus.Note: When school restarts, we will coordinate with the local teachers so our Thursday games program coincides with their “recess” time.I’ll keep you posted as events unfold.
7 TON TRUCK REPAIRED, SO LET THE FOOD FLOW!While picking up the very last load of July corn from our Pastors, the 7 ton truck broke down about 3 miles out of Balama. The left rear brake chamber for the air brakes cracked, causing a major air leak that disabled the truck due to its heavy load of corn. Our 6 ton truck team quickly unloaded their last load, and returned to pick up this load. After some very good road side engineering by Manuel, he was able to plug the leak enough to slowly bring the empty truck home. And there it sat for over 3 weeks while Eric Dry, our invaluable helper in South Africa, ordered the part and had it shipped to us. (This chamber is not even available in Moz.)Thanks to our Professional mechanic Carlos in Montepuez, 30 miles/60km away (who does house calls), the truck is now “back on the road”.Capena will spend this week setting up our first food distribution to over 600 orphans in the 7 villages near the Mango Tree Church of Mavala.MUCH THANKS AND GOD’S BLESSINGS AS YOU ALL CONTINUE TO HELP THE INNOCENT CHILDREN IN OUR AREA.
Sunset in Balama. The work never ends, but for today, we have run out of daylight.
