KEEP OUR STAFF IN YOUR PRAYERS:
OUR TRUCKS KEEP ROLLING! THE BALAMA TEAM DISTRIBUTED 12 TONS of food in 2 days this week to 315 orphans and the 99 widows who care for them. LONG DISTANCE DRIVER MANUEL AND HIS 2 MAN TEAM TRANSPORTED another 210 sacks (12.6 TONS) to Meluco this week to completely fill that orphan warehouse for the rainy season. (P.S. Construction has begun to repair the bridge that is out before the rains start. We are very grateful for that!) DRIVER GENITO helped out the hospital for the whole week by driving vaccination teams to many remote villages. Every child in the county from 5 to 14 years received deworming medicine. We totally support this for my motto is: “We don’t feed worms, we feed kids!” As you can see from the above list, my week was consumed by loading, loading, and more loading of trucks with the food and other supplies needed to feed all these orphans. My days started at 3a.m. most of this week for the trucks had to roll out by 4 a.m. to get to the distribution sites. Sunrise is now at 4:40 a.m. Seven Ton and six ton trucks loaded and ready to roll out for Wednesday’s give out. Thinking the trucks were “easy pickings”, a thief jumped our back fence to “sample” the produce! A thief jumped our back fence on Tuesday for he knew we had trucks loaded with food sitting at my house. He ran when he saw 2 guards moving in on him. Nothing was stolen, but it served as a good reminder to keep alert to our surroundings for the devil’s workers are on the prowl. The construction crew is working to raise the final ring beam of rebar that secures the windows, doors, and walls of Orphan House #3. No grass grows under our feet, for October is the last of the dry months. Rainy season due to begin in November. BUSH BUNNY TO WALK WITH LIONS IN RSA My friend, Sister Ligia (Lisha) from Equador, and I will travel to RSA on Oct. 11th for it is time for my annual routine medical/dental consults. Ugh. In the midst of all that, Ligia and I will squeeze in a few days “rest” at a very UNIQUE place called Horseback Africa. They specialize in allowing people ON HORSEBACK to view their game park which hosts only “safe animals”. No big 5 in this place for lions and leopards see horse meat as their CHOCOLATE! Horseback Africa is also a refuge for raising ORPHANED LIONS. Sister Ligia and I will be allowed to bottle feed baby lions, and take the young teenage lions for an hour’s walk in the bush with guides of course. Needless to say, God has blessed us with a very unique place to go relax for a few days. I will take lots of photos as we ride among the animals. They have GIRAFFES which are my favorite. My goal is to hopefully walk my horse with the giraffes as they feed in the trees. I was blessed once by getting to drive beside a young male giraffe in the wild as he loped along beside my pick-up on the highway in Zimbabwe. There is nothing more beautiful than being in unison with God’s Creation in the wild, the way HE meant it to be from the beginning. KEEP OUR STAFF IN YOUR PRAYERS CANDID CAMERA IN MOZAMBIQUE: Caught a snap shot of our children’s choir as they practice for Sunday’s service. Office manager, Capena, will be in charge while I’m away for 2 weeks. He and our entire staff are very capable caretakers of the children, but we do need your prayers for protection. The locals do watch our every move and they are well aware when I am away. We add more guards when I’m away, but there is nothing better than God’s Guards as a hedge of protection. EVIL LOSES TO PRAYERS OF FAITH
At 2 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, thieves broke into Manuel’s home. Manuel is our long distance truck driver, and he was in Meluco District on an overnight run to deliver food to the 520 orphans in that area. Manuel’s wife totally depends on that motorbike for her job as she teaches school in a village 15 km from Balama. We are very thankful that the thieves did not harm anyone during the robbery, but the loss of the bike was a horrible blow to this family. With Manuel gone, the YOUTH GROUP from his church, some of them members of our BBC team, met at his home to pray. They specifically asked the Lord to show them “where the bike was hidden”. Most times, stolen bikes are taken to another town and immediately sold, making them very difficult to recover. GOD ANSWERED QUICKLY for out of nowhere, a man they didn’t know showed up at Manuel’s gate. He told the Youth group that he saw a man PUSHING a motorbike past his home at 2:15 a.m. The man showed them where he saw the man going, so the men started talking to everyone on that road. When they got near our construction site for Orphan House #3, the night guard came forward to say that HE SAW A MAN PUSHING A BIKE into a fenced yard not far from where we are building orphan house #3! The Youth members and police went to that house and recovered the bike! Folks, I can tell you that this is a GOD THING for sure! It just doesn’t happen that a stolen bike is recovered so easily and in only 6 hours! TALK ABOUT A FAITH LESSON! All of us were super encouraged, and it showed our many “doubting Thomas” staff members that God truly answers prayer. It was the talk of the whole community that day, making both the saved and unsaved “take notice” of God’s power to answer prayer! PROVENTIAL DIRECTOR OF HEALTH VISITS BALAMA IT WAS OUR PLEASURE TO WELCOME THE DIRECTOR OF HEALTH. Senhora Directora Anastancia Lidimba toured the Balama health facilities on Friday. She requested to personally meet with me for she wanted to know who this “Brenda” is who helps the Balama hospital. We assist in many little ways, and will be providing a Land Cruiser and driver this next week to help distribute deworming medicine to all the children in Balama District. For the hospital staff to accomplish this massive feat in 30+ villages in 5 days (over 50,000 children in the target group), the Balama Hospital Director calls on everyone with transport who lives or works in the District to help transport the medical teams to the villages. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting this joyful and very powerful woman, who has the responsibility of overseeing every medical facility in Cabo Delgado’s 17 districts. BUSH BUNNY TIDBITS HANDING OUT SALT TO WIDOWS WHO CARE FOR ORPHANS. 1. Capena, office manager and my very versatile “right hand man” along with the Balama food distribution team spent the week gifting over 25 tons of corn and beans to 577 orphans in 15 remote villages. ORPHANS AND WIDOWS, HEADING HOME FROM FOOD DISTRIBUTION. 2. Manuel made 2 trips to Meluco District (9 hour drive each way) to provide the corn and beans needed to support these children through the fast approaching rainy season (Nov.) He will make another 3 loads this coming week, to complete the amount of food needed until May, 2018. WHY THE RUSH? A main bridge is out on the only road leading to our Meluco mission station. To get there, Manuel drives through a deep river bed on a temporary road of large rocks that provides trucks a dry season crossing. Once the rains begin, that option will literally be under water. This large bridge has been repaired twice after the last 2 rainy seasons, but each rainy season this river receives even larger amounts of fast moving water that damages it again. To say the least, it has been a hectic but rewarding week. Keep your prayers coming. Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda Lange And the Balama staff NOTE: REMEMBER OUR NEW ADDRESS: ORPHANS UNLIMITED, INC 562 S. HWY 123, BYPASS, #301 SEGUIN, TX 78155 |

BABIES GALORE!
We’ve received 9 orphaned babies into our formula program in the last 2 weeks. (7 single births, 1 set of twins). TWENTY of the 24 babies in our infant program are cared for by their grandmothers or aunts, living with family in their home villages. They come each Thursday to “weigh in” and receive their formula allotment. A lifesaving blessing that YOUR LOVE GIFTS provide. Three of the infants are living in our foster homes because no family member can care for them. Our youngest, Jacinta, reminds me of a little China doll. She is almost a 30 days old now, and is quickly gaining weight. NO GRASS GROWING UNDER OUR FEET Our construction crew have wasted no time in getting the new orphan house above window level in the last week. Our carpenters are busy making the door and window frames which will be installed as soon as the walls are up to the 2 meter (6.5 ft.) level. Orphan House #3 is rising quickly.
BBC, (Bush Bikers for Christ) help maintain our perimeter fence.
NEW CHURCH OPENS IN REMOTE VILLAGE JAMIRA VILLAGE, 42 km (25 miles) from our base, is now the most remote of all our Balama churches. On Friday, Sept. 22, the opening ceremony was attended by the 96 adults and children who make up this church as well as many villagers. THREE new converts received Jesus after our Pastors preached God’s Word to the village crowd. FORTY FIVE (45) of the church members received water Baptism! FOOD TEAM BUSY WITH DISTRIBUTIONS TO ORPHANS The first 2 weeks of each month are our busiest, as we distribute over 60 tons of corn and beans to orphans in 26 villages. In July, I stated that what goes into our barn must now go out. Our teams will continue this routine through November so that over 1,800 orphans in Balama and the 525+ orphans in Meluco Districts do not go hungry. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EVER FAITHFUL HELPING HAND SO THAT THESE LITTLE ONES HAVE WHAT THEY NEED. Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda Lange And the Balama Staff |

NEW ORPHAN HOMES NOW IN SERVICE
WITH GREAT THANKSGIVING we announce the opening of both “Sally’s House” and “June’s House” as the new interim“concrete brick homes” for our 13 orphaned/abandoned children while their old home site is being rebuilt.
Sally’s House, was built with the gifts of multiple donors, much of which came from friends of my Aunt Sally Legg’s memorial fund. Foster parents Atija and Esteven and 5 kids June’s House was a single donation given by Fel in memory of his wife, June. Foster moms Laura and Marcelina and 8 kids We extend our most gracious thanks to all of you for making this dream of safe housing become a reality for our children. THE OLD MAKING WAY FOR THE NEW PRAISE THE LORD! The 2 much larger permanent homes for the above 13 children has been donated by a Texas Businessman. The photos tell it all, as the old is torn down and the new begins. Tearing down old to make room for new. First new home foundation now drying.

The old address will continue to receive and forward your gifts to us for a limited period of time to allow for everyone to get the new address in their records. Please notify your bill-pay or automatic payment services of our new address as soon as possible. If you need new pre-addressed envelopes, please email us with the quantity you need… or enclose a note with your next love gift. Your patience and understanding during this time of challenges is much appreciated. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR ALL THOSE AFFECTED BY HURRICANES IN TEXAS, LOUISIANA, AND FLORIDA AND OTHER NATURAL DISASTERS ACROSS THE WORLD. ____________ GRANNY MIRACULOUSLY MAKES BREAST MILK FOR ABANDONED BABY Eight day old Baby Jacinta is our newest family member who was literally born “in the road” of a remote area. Sadly, this mother decided to abandon her baby and run away, leaving the newborn to die on the side of the road. Along comes Grandmother Fatima a few minutes after the baby was abandoned. She sees the baby, quickly scoops her up, and wraps this small, still wet newborn in her own skirt. (Talk about a Good Samaritan Story!) Grandma Fatima was desperate to save this little girl who only weighed 2kg (4.4 lbs), but she did not have any friends who were nursing a baby at this time. So she put Jacinta to her own breast, and not knowing for sure if God truly existed, she asked Him to give her breast milk. HE ANSWERED and the baby drank its first meal a bit later! (Never underestimate the faith of an unbeliever.) Grandma Fatima realized she could not raise this little one for she knew her years are limited. So she used her “widow’s mite” to get a ride to Balama with the local mini-bus driver. Social Services brought her to us with a written request asking that Baby Jacinta be allowed to live in one of our foster families. She was immediately accepted by one of our foster mothers, and is already gaining weight after 4 days of proper baby formula. MIRACLES IN JESUS’ DAY WERE GIVEN TO ALL, EVEN THOSE WHO DIDN’T KNOW HIM. ONE THING IS FOR SURE. FATIMA NOW KNOWS GOD EXISTS AND HE ANSWERS PRAYER! ____________ NEW CHURCH OPENS SAVING FIVE ORPHANS The BBC Motorbike Team celebrated the opening of their 2nd church this week in the remote village of 7th of April. THIS IS DIRECT FRUIT FROM THE BAWANA GAMES PROGRAM. Over 1000 villagers of all ages attended along with all 11 of our remote Pastors from around Balama. These Pastors prayed for the sick, and taught the crowd about Jesus. I am told the church has only 27 adults in regular attendance, but over 900 children show up to hear the Jesus stories! A Granny brought her 5 orphaned grandchildren for prayer. (TWO of the boys, ages 12 and 8, had to be carried for they have suffered with deformed legs since birth.) The 1 year old orphan baby has eye problems. All 5 children are moderately malnourished for the Granny and her daughter who tend to these children do not have enough food to feed them. Once this report was given to me, we immediately accepted them into our weekly food program. The following day, Fred, our Provincial Pastor, drove back to this village on his own motorbike to take a week’s worth of food to these children. The BBC Team will continue to deliver food to this family each week as they take the Word of God to this remote area. (Sorry, no photos available of these kids at the moment. Pastor Fred’s phone camera malfunctioned.) YOUR LOVE GIFTS AT WORK! THANK YOU FOR GIVING US THE HELPING HANDS NEEDED SO THAT OTHERS MAY LIVE. BLESSINGS, BUSH BUNNY BRENDA LANGE THE BALAMA STAFF |

More on that below as there is an urgent matter at hand for Hurricane victims. WET AND WILD IS THE NAME OF THE GAME!
Larry Friend, .….”,God’s good and faithful servant.” SIXTY FOUR Men and women from 3 Districts (counties) devoured the Word of God as Larry Friend poured out his heart during our 5 day Bawana Bible Conference. The afternoons rocked with laughter as the adults learned new games by “playing like kids”. The finale was the “Wet and Wild” Water game. They loved this game so much that they ran to the water well to refill their buckets so they could play it a 2nd time! Wet and Wild rules: 1. Line up in 4 equal teams of players. ( see photo above.) 2. First person Soaks a giant sponge in a 5 gallon/20 liter bucket, 3. At the “GO”, the soaked sponge is rapidly passed overhead to each team mate AS THEY SQUEEZE THE WATER OUT OF IT. (see photo above.) 4. The last person must run with the “dry” sponge to the bucket, soak it, then start the same process all over again. 5. Object of the game: BE THE FIRST TEAM TO EMPTY THE BUCKET! 6. Everyone gets “wet and wild” as they have lots of fun. A SINCERE THANKS TO LARRY FRIEND FOR DONATING HIS AWESOME BIBLE KNOWLEDGE SO THAT OUR PASTORS CAN TAKE MORE OF GOD’S WORD TO THOSE THEY SERVE. ELEPHANT VILLAGE YOUTH LEADER FOUND MELUCO DISTRICT BBC MEMBER, JAMIE, a very mature man in the Lord, has volunteered to move his family to Imbada, better known as the Elephant Village. We have many details to work out before he can move to Imbada, but the search for a house has already begun. We still need an assistant for Jamie, as we only send men out “2 by 2” in unreached areas (the same as Jesus did). It has been a very, very busy week hosting our Bible Conference, so please excuse the short letter. I just returned from Pemba, where I dropped Larry at the airport. He is arriving in Atlanta, GA about now, and I pray he had an uneventful 2 day flight. Thanks much for your continued prayers for the Elephant Village. All our children returned to school this week. So it’s back to the books for most of our kids. Back to school means lining up for physical education. Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda Lange |

ELEPHANT VILLAGE CHILDREN SHOCK BAWANA LEADER
Wednesday this week found Bawana Leader, Carlitos Jorge, and our MELUCO food distribution team in the Elephant Village where 119 orphans live. While the team distributed the food to the widows, Carlitos started playing games with the children. Word spread like wildfire and by Bible Lesson Time, 163 children had showed up to play “Bawana” Games and hear God’s Story. For Meluco, we now call it “MAWANA GAMES”. As soon as Carlitos arrived back in Balama he jumped from our food truck to tell me an amazing story. THE 50+ CHILDREN FROM LAST MONTH TOLD HIM THE CREATION STORY he had taught them last month! This is AMAZING since they only heard it one time!!!! These are the same children that a month ago didn’t even know “God had created them and truly loves them!” We know that God is moving in the hearts of these children who are truly fertile ground. So we have a prayer request. We have tried for 3 years to get a church started in this village, but were unable to get ANY TRAINED PASTOR to live there. Why? Lack of food, scared of the elephants, and no decent mud hut available are the most common reasons given. But all that can be organized if we can find a person with a willing heart. AFTER 2 MONTHS of searching this year, no young man in the Elephant Village wants to become a trainee. We continue to pray and search for a Pastor, or a “trainee” who is willing to start a church in the Elephant Village. These children are “hungry to know more about God and Jesus”. Please put this need on your prayer list and help us find an enthusiastic youth leader or couple willing to live there, teach God’s Word, and love on these children. LARRY FRIEND IS BACK!
The much loved Bible Teacher, Larry Friend, is the amazing man who introduced “Bawana Games” to our Pastors 5 years ago. This program helped us start a massive evangelistic outreach that now has over 15,000 children learning God’s Word each week. Tomorrow, Monday, Aug. 21st, Larry begins a 5 day “Bible Conference” to edify and advance the training of our 50+ Pastors and BAWANA Leaders who will attend. His lessons will include new object lessons, and new games they can use to teach Bible Lessons. We plan to talk with all these men about the Elephant Village need and see what solution might “pop up”! It is the only time each year that ALL our Pastors from 3 Districts (counties) are together in one place. It will be a busy week for sure, so stay tuned next week for “the rest of the story”. Blessings, Bush Bunny Brenda Lange And the Balama Staff |
