OUR TRUCKS KEEP ROLLING!

THE BALAMA TEAM DISTRIBUTED 12 TONS of food in 2 days this week to 315 orphans and the 99 wid­ows who care for them.

LONG DISTANCE DRIVER MANUEL AND HIS 2 MAN TEAM TRANSPORTED anoth­er 210 sacks (12.6 TONS) to Melu­co this week to com­plete­ly fill that orphan ware­house for the rainy sea­son.  (P.S. Con­struc­tion has begun to repair the bridge that is out before the rains start. We are very grate­ful for that!)

DRIVER GENITO helped out the hos­pi­tal for the whole week by dri­ving vac­ci­na­tion teams to many remote vil­lages.  Every child in the coun­ty from 5 to 14 years received deworm­ing med­i­cine.  We total­ly sup­port this for my mot­to is:  “We don’t feed worms, we feed kids!”

As you can see from the above list, my week was con­sumed by load­ing, load­ing, and more load­ing of trucks with the food and oth­er sup­plies need­ed to feed all these orphans.  My days start­ed at 3a.m. most of this week for the trucks had to roll out by 4 a.m. to get to the dis­tri­b­u­tion sites.  Sun­rise is now at 4:40 a.m.

Sev­en Ton and six ton trucks loaded and ready to roll out for Wednesday’s give out. Think­ing the trucks were “easy pick­ings”, a thief jumped our back fence to “sam­ple” the produce!

A thief jumped our back fence on Tues­day for he knew we had trucks loaded with food sit­ting at my house.  He ran when he saw 2 guards mov­ing in on him. Noth­ing was stolen, but it served as a good reminder to keep alert to our sur­round­ings for the devil’s work­ers are on the prowl.

The con­struc­tion crew is work­ing to raise the final ring beam of rebar that secures the win­dows, doors, and walls of Orphan House #3.

No grass grows under our feet, for Octo­ber is the last of the dry months.  Rainy sea­son due to begin in November.

BUSH BUNNY TO WALK WITH LIONS IN RSA

My friend, Sis­ter Ligia (Lisha) from Equador, and I will trav­el to RSA on Oct. 11th for it is time for my annu­al rou­tine medical/dental con­sults.  Ugh.

In the midst of all that, Ligia and I will squeeze in a few days “rest” at a very UNIQUE place called Horse­back Africa.  They spe­cial­ize in allow­ing peo­ple ON HORSEBACK to view their game park which hosts only “safe ani­mals”.  No big 5 in this place for lions and leop­ards see horse meat as their CHOCOLATE!

Horse­back Africa is also a refuge for rais­ing ORPHANED LIONS.  Sis­ter Ligia and I will be allowed to bot­tle feed baby lions, and take the young teenage lions for an hour’s walk in the bush with guides of course.  Need­less to say, God has blessed us with a very unique place to go relax for a few days.

I will take lots of pho­tos as we ride among the ani­mals.  They have GIRAFFES which are my favorite. My goal is to hope­ful­ly walk my horse with the giraffes as they feed in the trees. I was blessed once by get­ting to dri­ve beside a young male giraffe in the wild as he loped along beside my pick-up on the high­way in Zim­bab­we. There is noth­ing more beau­ti­ful than being in uni­son with God’s Cre­ation in the wild, the way HE meant it to be from the beginning.

Office man­ag­er, Cape­na, will be in charge while I’m away for 2 weeks.  He and our entire staff are very capa­ble care­tak­ers of the chil­dren, but we do need your prayers for pro­tec­tion.  The locals do watch our every move and they are well aware when I am away.  We add more guards when I’m away, but there is noth­ing bet­ter than God’s Guards as a hedge of protection.

At 2 a.m. Wednes­day, Sept. 27, thieves broke into Manuel’s home.  Manuel is our long dis­tance truck dri­ver, and he was in Melu­co Dis­trict on an overnight run to deliv­er food to the 520 orphans in that area.  Manuel’s wife total­ly depends on that motor­bike for her job as she teach­es school in a vil­lage 15 km from Bala­ma. We are very thank­ful that the thieves did not harm any­one dur­ing the rob­bery, but the loss of the bike was a hor­ri­ble blow to this family.

With Manuel gone, the YOUTH GROUP from his church, some of them mem­bers of our BBC team, met at his home to pray. They specif­i­cal­ly asked the Lord to show them “where the bike was hid­den”.  Most times, stolen bikes are tak­en to anoth­er town and imme­di­ate­ly sold, mak­ing them very dif­fi­cult to recover.

GOD ANSWERED QUICKLY for out of nowhere, a man they didn’t know showed up at Manuel’s gate.  He told the Youth group that he saw a man PUSHING a motor­bike past his home at 2:15 a.m.  The man showed them where he saw the man going, so the men start­ed talk­ing to every­one on that road.

When they got near our con­struc­tion site for Orphan House #3, the night guard came for­ward to say that HE SAW A MAN PUSHING A BIKE into a fenced yard not far from where we are build­ing orphan house #3!  The Youth mem­bers and police went to that house and recov­ered the bike!  Folks, I can tell you that this is a GOD THING for sure!  It just doesn’t hap­pen that a stolen bike is recov­ered so eas­i­ly and in only 6 hours!

TALK ABOUT A FAITH LESSON!  All of us were super encour­aged, and it showed our many “doubt­ing Thomas” staff mem­bers that God tru­ly answers prayer.  It was the talk of the whole com­mu­ni­ty that day, mak­ing both the saved and unsaved “take notice” of God’s pow­er to answer prayer!

PROVENTIAL DIRECTOR OF HEALTH VISITS BALAMA

IT WAS OUR PLEASURE TO WELCOME THE DIRECTOR OF HEALTH.

Sen­ho­ra Direc­to­ra Anas­tan­cia Lidim­ba toured the Bala­ma health facil­i­ties on Fri­day.  She request­ed to per­son­al­ly meet with me for she want­ed to know who this “Bren­da” is who helps the Bala­ma hos­pi­tal.  We assist in many lit­tle ways, and will be pro­vid­ing a Land Cruis­er and dri­ver this next week to help dis­trib­ute deworm­ing med­i­cine to all the chil­dren in Bala­ma Dis­trict.  For the hos­pi­tal staff to accom­plish this mas­sive feat in 30+ vil­lages in 5 days (over 50,000 chil­dren in the tar­get group), the Bala­ma Hos­pi­tal Direc­tor calls on every­one with trans­port who lives or works in the Dis­trict to help trans­port the med­ical teams to the villages.

I thor­ough­ly enjoyed meet­ing this joy­ful and very pow­er­ful woman, who has the respon­si­bil­i­ty of over­see­ing every  med­ical facil­i­ty in Cabo Delgado’s 17 districts.

HANDING OUT SALT TO WIDOWS WHO CARE FOR ORPHANS.

1. Cape­na, office man­ag­er and my very ver­sa­tile “right hand man” along with the Bala­ma food dis­tri­b­u­tion team spent the week gift­ing over 25 tons of corn and beans to 577 orphans in 15 remote villages.

ORPHANS AND WIDOWS, HEADING HOME FROM FOOD DISTRIBUTION.

2. Manuel made 2 trips to Melu­co Dis­trict (9 hour dri­ve each way) to pro­vide the corn and beans need­ed to sup­port these chil­dren through the fast approach­ing rainy sea­son (Nov.)  He will make anoth­er 3 loads this com­ing week, to com­plete the amount of food need­ed until May, 2018.

WHY THE RUSH?  A main bridge is out on the only road lead­ing to our Melu­co mis­sion sta­tion.  To get there, Manuel dri­ves through a  deep riv­er bed on a tem­po­rary road of large rocks that pro­vides trucks a dry sea­son cross­ing.  Once the rains begin, that option will lit­er­al­ly be under water. This large bridge has been repaired twice after the last 2 rainy sea­sons, but each rainy sea­son this riv­er receives even larg­er amounts of fast mov­ing water that dam­ages it again.

To say the least, it has been a hec­tic but reward­ing week. Keep your prayers coming.

We’ve received 9 orphaned babies into our for­mu­la pro­gram in the last 2 weeks. (7 sin­gle births, 1 set of twins). TWENTY of the 24 babies in our infant pro­gram are cared for by their grand­moth­ers or aunts, liv­ing with fam­i­ly in their home villages.

They come each Thurs­day to “weigh in” and receive their for­mu­la allot­ment.  A life­sav­ing bless­ing that YOUR LOVE GIFTS provide.

Three of the infants are liv­ing in our fos­ter homes because no fam­i­ly mem­ber can care for them.

Our youngest, Jac­in­ta, reminds me of a lit­tle Chi­na doll.  She is almost a 30 days old now, and is quick­ly gain­ing weight.

NO GRASS GROWING UNDER OUR FEET

Our con­struc­tion crew have wast­ed no time in get­ting the new orphan house above win­dow lev­el in the last week.  Our car­pen­ters are busy mak­ing the door and win­dow frames which will be installed as soon as the walls are up to the 2 meter (6.5 ft.) level.

Orphan House #3 is ris­ing quickly.

BBC, (Bush Bik­ers for Christ) help main­tain our perime­ter fence.

NEW CHURCH OPENS IN REMOTE VILLAGE

JAMIRA VILLAGE, 42 km (25 miles) from our base, is now the most remote of all our Bala­ma church­es. On Fri­day, Sept. 22, the open­ing cer­e­mo­ny was attend­ed by the 96 adults and chil­dren who make up this church as well as many vil­lagers.   THREE new con­verts received Jesus after our Pas­tors preached God’s Word to the vil­lage crowd. FORTY FIVE (45) of the church mem­bers received water Baptism!

FOOD TEAM BUSY WITH DISTRIBUTIONS TO ORPHANS

The first 2 weeks of each month are our busiest, as we dis­trib­ute over 60 tons of corn and beans to orphans in 26 vil­lages. In July, I stat­ed that what goes into our barn must now go out.  Our teams will con­tin­ue this rou­tine through Novem­ber so that over 1,800 orphans in Bala­ma and the 525+ orphans in Melu­co Dis­tricts do not go hungry.

GRANNY MIRACULOUSLY MAKES BREAST MILK FOR ABANDONED BABY

Eight day old Baby Jac­in­ta is our newest fam­i­ly mem­ber who was lit­er­al­ly born “in the road” of a remote area. Sad­ly, this moth­er decid­ed to aban­don her baby and run away, leav­ing the new­born to die on the side of the road.

Along comes Grand­moth­er Fati­ma a few min­utes after the baby was aban­doned. She sees the baby, quick­ly scoops her up, and wraps this small, still wet new­born in her own skirt. (Talk about a Good Samar­i­tan Story!)

Grand­ma Fati­ma was des­per­ate to save this lit­tle girl who only weighed 2kg (4.4 lbs), but she did not have any friends who were nurs­ing a baby at this time. So she put Jac­in­ta to her own breast, and not know­ing for sure if God tru­ly exist­ed, she asked Him to give her breast milk.

HE ANSWERED and the baby drank its first meal a bit lat­er!  (Nev­er under­es­ti­mate the faith of an unbe­liev­er.) Grand­ma Fati­ma real­ized she could not raise this lit­tle one for she knew her years are lim­it­ed. So she used her “widow’s mite” to get a ride to Bala­ma with the local mini-bus dri­ver. Social Ser­vices brought her to us with a writ­ten request ask­ing that Baby Jac­in­ta be allowed to live in one of our fos­ter fam­i­lies. She was imme­di­ate­ly accept­ed by one of our fos­ter moth­ers, and is already gain­ing weight after 4 days of prop­er baby formula.

MIRACLES IN JESUS’ DAY WERE GIVEN TO ALL, EVEN THOSE WHO DIDN’T KNOW HIM. ONE THING IS FOR SURE. FATIMA NOW KNOWS GOD EXISTS AND HE ANSWERS PRAYER!

NEW CHURCH OPENS SAVING FIVE ORPHANS

The BBC Motor­bike Team cel­e­brat­ed the open­ing of their 2nd church this week in the remote vil­lage of 7th of April.

THIS IS DIRECT FRUIT FROM THE BAWANA GAMES PROGRAM.

Over 1000 vil­lagers of all ages attend­ed along with all 11 of our remote Pas­tors from around Bala­ma.  These Pas­tors prayed for the sick, and taught the crowd about Jesus.

I am told the church has only 27 adults in reg­u­lar atten­dance, but over 900 chil­dren show up to hear the Jesus stories!

A Granny brought her 5 orphaned grand­chil­dren for prayer.  (TWO of the boys, ages 12 and 8, had to be car­ried for they have suf­fered with deformed legs since birth.) The 1 year old orphan baby has eye prob­lems. All 5 chil­dren are mod­er­ate­ly mal­nour­ished for the Granny and her daugh­ter who tend to these chil­dren do not have enough food to feed them.

Once this report was giv­en to me, we imme­di­ate­ly accept­ed them into our week­ly food pro­gram. The fol­low­ing day, Fred, our Provin­cial Pas­tor, drove back to this vil­lage on his own motor­bike to take a week’s worth of food to these children.

The BBC Team will con­tin­ue to deliv­er food to this fam­i­ly each week as they take the Word of God to this remote area. (Sor­ry, no pho­tos avail­able of these kids at the moment.  Pas­tor Fred’s phone cam­era malfunctioned.)

YES, our office sur­vived the storm as it is locat­ed in one of the few areas that did not flood, PTL!

HOWEVER, our Hous­ton Post Office is still under­wa­ter after a week, and all mail ser­vice in most of the Hous­ton area has stopped.

Lar­ry Friend, .….”,God’s good and faith­ful servant.”

SIXTY FOUR Men and women from 3 Dis­tricts (coun­ties)  devoured the Word of God as Lar­ry Friend poured out his heart dur­ing our 5 day Bawana Bible Con­fer­ence.  The after­noons rocked with laugh­ter as the adults learned new games by “play­ing like kids”.  The finale was the “Wet and Wild” Water game.  They loved this game so much that they ran to the water well to refill their buck­ets so they could play it a 2nd time!

Wet and Wild rules:

1. Line up in 4 equal teams of play­ers. ( see pho­to above.)

2. First per­son Soaks a giant sponge in a 5 gallon/20 liter bucket,

3. At the “GO”, the soaked sponge is rapid­ly passed over­head to each team mate AS THEY SQUEEZE THE WATER OUT OF IT.  (see pho­to above.)

4. The last per­son must run with the “dry” sponge to the buck­et, soak it, then start the same process all over again.

5.  Object of the game:  BE THE FIRST TEAM TO EMPTY THE BUCKET!

6.  Every­one gets “wet and wild” as they have lots of fun.

ELEPHANT VILLAGE YOUTH LEADER FOUND

MELUCO DISTRICT BBC MEMBER, JAMIE, a very mature man in the Lord, has vol­un­teered to move his fam­i­ly to Imba­da, bet­ter known as the Ele­phant Vil­lage. We have many details to work out before he can move to Imba­da, but the search for a house has already begun.

We still need an assis­tant for Jamie, as we only send men out “2 by 2” in unreached areas (the same as Jesus did).

It has been a very, very busy week host­ing our Bible Con­fer­ence, so please excuse the short letter.

I just returned from Pem­ba, where I dropped Lar­ry at the air­port.  He is arriv­ing in Atlanta, GA about now, and I pray he had an unevent­ful 2 day flight.

Thanks much for your con­tin­ued prayers for the Ele­phant Village.

All our chil­dren returned to school this week. So it’s back to the books for most of our kids.

Back to school means lin­ing up for phys­i­cal education.

Wednes­day this week found Bawana Leader, Car­l­i­tos Jorge, and our MELUCO food dis­tri­b­u­tion team in the Ele­phant Vil­lage where 119 orphans live. While the team dis­trib­uted the food to the wid­ows, Car­l­i­tos start­ed play­ing games with the chil­dren. Word spread like wild­fire and by Bible Les­son Time, 163 chil­dren had showed up to play “Bawana” Games  and hear God’s Sto­ry.   For Melu­co, we now call it “MAWANA GAMES”.

As soon as Car­l­i­tos arrived back in Bala­ma he jumped from our food truck to tell me an amaz­ing sto­ry. THE 50+ CHILDREN FROM LAST MONTH TOLD HIM THE CREATION STORY he had taught them last month! This is AMAZING since they only heard it one time!!!!

These are the same chil­dren that a month ago didn’t even know  “God had cre­at­ed them and tru­ly loves them!” We know that God is mov­ing in the hearts of these chil­dren who are tru­ly fer­tile ground.

So we have a prayer request.

We have tried for 3 years to get a church start­ed in this vil­lage, but were unable to get ANY TRAINED PASTOR to live there. Why?  Lack of food, scared of the ele­phants,  and no decent mud hut avail­able are the most com­mon rea­sons giv­en. But all that can be orga­nized if we can find a per­son with a will­ing heart.

AFTER 2 MONTHS of search­ing this year, no young man in the Ele­phant Vil­lage wants to become a trainee. We con­tin­ue to pray and search for a Pas­tor, or a “trainee” who is will­ing to start a church in the Ele­phant Vil­lage. These chil­dren are “hun­gry to know more about God and Jesus”.

Please put this need on your prayer list and help us find an enthu­si­as­tic youth leader or cou­ple will­ing to live there, teach God’s Word, and love on these children.

LARRY FRIEND IS BACK!

The much loved Bible Teacher, Lar­ry Friend, is the amaz­ing man who intro­duced “Bawana Games” to our Pas­tors 5 years ago.

This pro­gram helped us start a mas­sive evan­ge­lis­tic out­reach that now has over 15,000 chil­dren learn­ing God’s Word each week.

Tomor­row, Mon­day, Aug. 21st, Lar­ry begins a 5 day “Bible Con­fer­ence” to edi­fy and advance the train­ing of our 50+ Pas­tors and BAWANA Lead­ers who will attend.   His lessons will include new object lessons, and new games they can use to teach Bible Lessons.

We plan to talk with all these men about the Ele­phant Vil­lage need and see what solu­tion might “pop up”! It is the only time each year that ALL our Pas­tors from 3 Dis­tricts (coun­ties) are togeth­er in one place.

It will be a busy week for sure, so stay tuned next week for “the rest of the story”.
