LAYING A STRONG PORTUGUESE FOUNDATION All 19 of our school age children also attend a study period for an hour per day in order to strengthen what they learn at school. All but 2 of our 66 children were raised here, but they prefer speaking Makua (tribal language) over the national language of Portuguese. SURPRISE EASTER PARTY FOR THE CHILDREN The Administrator’s wife surprised me with a late afternoon visit on Wednesday, last week. She requested that we set up for an Easter Sunday party, and she would bring all the food! (She owns a restaurant). BABY ROSILDA, 4 MONTHS OLD, HAS SERIOUS MALARIA For 3 weeks, we have battled Rosilda’s malaria. REGGIE MAKES SINGING DEBUT! This little lady is Reginalda, the infant who had the bone TB given to her by her mother while she was in utero. For a whole year, Reggie underwent treatment and did very little growing. But after she was free of the bone TB, she grew fast and is now 3 years old! JUMAIDA WITH COMPLICATIONS On Monday, Jumaida needed an emergency blood transfusion. The malaria she had just defeated caused her hemoglobin to drop dangerously low (8.4 down to 6.4 in 5 days)! That’s a true emergency! The call came at 3pm as the hospital staff needed permission for the transfusion. I was impressed as the hospital staff had her transfusion completed by 6:30pm!
