THE BABY RESCUES CONTINUE… On Tues­day, our newest infant, Baby Boy Boni­to, 7.5 months old at 4kg/8.8 lbs., was released from the hos­pi­tal after a 2 week stay. Admit­ted for malar­ia, his lab tests revealed a Hgb of only 4.9! YIKES! That is death’s door! He looked it too, as he was very weak, and not able to suck a bot­tle. He urgent­ly need­ed blood, receiv­ing his first of 2 blood trans­fu­sions on Good Fri­day. Now that he has a nor­mal blood count, he sleeps peace­ful­ly in the arms of his new fos­ter moth­er, Franquina.

Jumai­da remains in hos­pi­tal with a low-grade fever, but her diar­rhea has final­ly stopped. Please con­tin­ue to pray for her as she is very weak and not eat­ing or drink­ing much. She is still depen­dent on IV flu­ids to keep her hydrat­ed, but is now being giv­en an appetite stim­u­lant to see if it will encour­age her to eat and drink more.

Baby Gil­da and Grandparents.

At 4pm on Tues­day, an elder­ly cou­ple brought in 3.5‑month-old Baby Girl Gil­da in des­per­ate need of our milk pro­gram as she weighs only 4.2kg/9 lbs.!They live in a vil­lage 14km/8.1 miles away, and with sad voic­es told us that Gilda’s moth­er com­mit­ted sui­cide, leav­ing them to attend to the baby. We imme­di­ate­ly gave Gil­da a bot­tle, and taught the Grandparent’s how to mix the milk, clean the bot­tles, etc.  Sui­cide is not com­mon in our area, and we are all still shocked that this hap­pened to this nice family.

Play Ball! Spring has sprung!

AND THE BALL GAMES ARE ON! With the end­ing of the rainy sea­son, it is time to break out the new rub­ber balls, and get down to some seri­ous fun with our lit­tle ones!As you can see from the pho­tos and video that our kids are seri­ous about their ball play­ing. It was fun watch­ing the youngest ones as it was their first time to see or play with a ball.
