READING IS A BLESSING Pastor Armando, Dorm Director for our teenage boys, came to our office this week because he was having trouble reading his Bible or even larger print on documents. I keep a small supply of reading glasses, bought with your Love Gifts, just for this reason. |
Pastor Armando busy reading God’s Word after receiving eye glasses. |
As our staff members get a bit older, simple reading glasses ($12 value) are all that is needed to give them back their joy when able to read God’s Word once again. After he tried on a pair of #2.0 glasses, his face lit up as he could instantly read the tiny print in our Portuguese Bible. It may seem like a little thing, but out here, these “little things” like reading glasses don’t exist. THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS POSSIBLE THROUGH YOUR FAITHFUL LOVE GIFTS. BEING A BLESSING TO BABIES IN NEED It is not only infants who have lost their mothers that need our help. Once or twice weekly, we receive a mother who has no breast milk, or who’s breast milk isn’t adequate if she has twins. The mother shown here has both problems. |
Three-week-old twins needing infant formula. Director Anna far right is teaching them how to mix the milk. |
Three weeks after the birth of her twins, her body stopped producing breast milk. Before our arrival in Balama, these mothers would risk losing one or both babies if they had twins and couldn’t feed them, because infant formula didn’t exist here 24 years ago. BECAUSE OF YOUR LOVE GIFTS, these infants now have a greater survival rate. Director Anna teaches the mother how to mix the formula, clean the bottles, and boil then cool the well water before using it to feed the infants. Our staff as well as the local malnutrition doctor weigh and medically check these infants every Thursday when they come for milk formula. This greatly reduces the infant mortality rate which 24 years ago was 4 infants lost for every one infant that lived. It is almost reversed now with 5 infants saved for every one lost. All because of a helping hand from those that care.THANK YOU FOR HELPING US TO SAVE MANY LITTLE LIVES.BUSH BUNNY TIDBITSAll 29 infants in our care are doing well, with NONE in the hospital. That always puts a smile on my face! The 4 trees given to us by the Graphite Mine are being cut up and distributed to the orphan homes. |

Manuel and his assistant, Fostino, are on their way back from Meluco District after repairing 16 water wells. More on that story next week.Bunny is back in Balama with a new Passport, PTL! KEEP YOUR PRAYERS COMING, AS WE MOVE FORWARD WITH THE WORK GOD HAS FOR US TO DO. BLESSINGS, BUSH BUNNY BRENDA LANGE AND THE BALAMA STAFF |
