AWANA GAMES DRAW BIG CROWDS

425 CHILDREN ATTEND AWANA IN N‑QUIDE VILLAGE

Youth Lead­ers Car­l­i­tos  and Ambro­sio return­ing from N‑Quide Vil­lage.  Set a new record today with 425 chil­dren in atten­dance today.  (3 meet­ings over 4 hour time span).Car­l­i­tos Jorge and his assis­tant, Ambro­sio, (one of our orphans all grown up now), have set up THREE AWANA GAMES sites in the remote, but very large vil­lage of NQUIDE (N‑Qwee-dee).

Trav­el­ing on Car­l­i­tos’ old but faith­ful motor­bike, these 2 young men hold 3 com­plete pro­grams each Sat­ur­day morn­ing in 3 dif­fer­ent areas of this large vil­lage of over 2,500 peo­ple.  Many adults attend also, as the chil­dren are tough com­peti­tors mak­ing the games very excit­ing and LOUD!

Devo­tions with a Bible Les­son fol­lows each com­pe­ti­tion, and many are start­ing to under­stand who Jesus is.  Nquide is an “unreached” vil­lage, so it takes some time to get every­one to know who is God, and why He sent Jesus to be our Saviour.

Pas­toral train­ing with Car­l­i­tos George using a dra­ma­tized sto­ry to illus­trate to our Bala­ma Coun­ty Pas­tors what he learned at the AWANA Con­fer­ence in Mozam­bique ear­li­er this month.

Car­l­i­tos is a very “ani­mat­ed” teacher who uses object lessons and dra­mas to help every­one under­stand the lessons.

Thanks to your prayer and love gifts, Car­l­i­tos and the oth­er 26 AWANA lead­ers are now spread­ing God’s Word in a very real way to over 3,000 peo­ple each week in THREE COUNTIES.

NEW CHURCH STARTED TODAY IN N‑TELE VILLAGE

Pas­tor Gito has been busy evan­ge­liz­ing in N‑Tele (N‑Tell‑y) Vil­lage for almost 6 months now.  He announced at our Sept. 30thPastor’s meet­ing that the church mem­bers had com­plet­ed their grass roofed church area.  Gito invit­ed our youth team to come dance and sing at the inau­gu­ra­tion to help them offi­cial­ly open the church today, Oct. 10th.  So off they went with their key­board, speak­ers, and bat­tery set up to praise the Lord over anoth­er vil­lage com­ing to Christ.

FOOD GIVE OUTS SPREADING GOD’S LOVE TO MANY HUNGRY PEOPLE

Sep­tem­ber to Decem­ber are the hot, dry months here in north­ern Mozam­bique, which is also known as the “time of hunger”.  Most of our orphans can raise enough food to last up to 6 months of the year, but need help from August to Jan­u­ary when their new­ly plant­ed seeds begin to pro­duce food.  Dur­ing these months, we spend many hours load­ing and unload­ing our 6 and 7 ton trucks at food give outs in 2 coun­ties.  This com­ing Mon­day to Fri­day,  we will load and dis­trib­ute over 30 TONS of dried corn and beans to more than 1,500 orphans and wid­ows in 17 vil­lages in 2 coun­ties.  This means many long hours for our staff, dri­vers, and dis­tri­b­u­tion teams.

LAYLA SILVA JUMPS IN WITH BOTH FEET!

Lay­la has a big heart for serv­ing Jesus.  She has learned more Por­tuguese in this 7 day peri­od than I thought pos­si­ble, and also start­ed teach­ing Eng­lish to our school age and pre-school stu­dents this last Tues­day.  She’s won­der­ful to work with, and a joy to be around, as she loves to laugh and sing.

A mer­ry heart does good like a med­i­cine!  I am very grate­ful that Jesus “spoke to her spir­it”, telling her this is where He want­ed her to serve.

Keep her in your prayers, as she has an intense learning/orientation peri­od ahead in these next 3 months.

A TEXAS COWGIRL, LAYLA, HERE IN BALAMA!

Lay­la  Sil­va showed up at the Pem­ba air­port dressed out in a “square dance” type skirt and her Texas Cow­girl boots!

I cracked up when I first saw her at cus­toms, as there was no doubt where this girl came from.

We have had a great 2 days get­ting to know each oth­er and are busy get­ting her ori­en­tat­ed to what is where and how to do things.

She is a great culi­nary chef, so I’m show­ing her the “Bala­ma way” to roast 2 chickens.

Then we will let her show me a bet­ter way to do it the next time.

Lots of work ahead as we con­tin­ue food dis­tri­b­u­tions this week.

Lay­la will jump in with both feet to teach Eng­lish to our chil­dren this com­ing week, as well as learn how to han­dle the ware­house distributions.

Long Awaited Ceremony

LICENSING CEREMONY FOR OUR ORPHAN PROGRAM SET FOR SEPT. 28TH

Been a busy week as we will be host­ing a “goat and rice” feast for 90 peo­ple at our Children’s Cen­ter this com­ing Monday.

Hav­ing a “cer­e­mo­ny” with many gov­ern­ment offi­cials (state and local), means haul­ing every table and chair we have on site (includ­ing those the in the children’s homes) to the “all-pur­pose room” at the “Cen­ter”.

On Mon­day we will “fetch the 2 goats” (guests of hon­or), and pre­pare them for the 2pm luncheon.

The FRAMED LICENSE will be pre­sent­ed to us that morn­ing, and then the del­e­ga­tion would like to vis­it some of the orphan’s homes in oth­er vil­lages while await­ing the feast.

So Mon­day will be a day of many chal­lenges.   Please keep us cov­ered in prayer.

SANDRA, SIX MONTH OLD ORPHAN, NEWEST MEMBER OF OUR FAMILY

San­dra has been in the Baby For­mu­la Pro­gram for sev­er­al months,..

and each time she was brought to our cen­ter for her “weigh in”, she was with a dif­fer­ent fam­i­ly mem­ber.  Her Aunt told us a few weeks ago that the baby stayed with the grand­moth­er, who was too old to make the 9 km (5.5 mile) walk to fetch the milk.  That is why a dif­fer­ent per­son brought her each week to receive her formula.

Last Thurs­day, I was appalled to find San­dra so ane­mic that she had NO COLOR in her eye lids and her skin was pale.  The grand­moth­er her­self had car­ried her to us, but it was easy to see she just bare­ly made the long walk.

We imme­di­ate­ly took baby and grand­moth­er to the hos­pi­tal.  San­dra was admit­ted for an emer­gency trans­fu­sion, for with­out it, she was not long for this world.   She steadi­ly improved after 8 days in the hos­pi­tal, and the grand­moth­er great­ly ben­e­fit­ted from a bal­anced diet.

Upon Sandra’s release, the grand­moth­er refused to take the baby home, stat­ing she could no longer bring the baby to get for­mu­la each week.

Social Ser­vices had already done a thor­ough home study on this fam­i­ly, and total­ly agreed that since orphaned San­dra was reject­ed by the younger fam­i­ly mem­bers in her vil­lage, she need­ed to live with us.

So home she came, and we placed her with lov­ing fos­ter moth­er, ATIJA, (Ah-T-SHA), who assist­ed us in suc­cess­ful­ly rais­ing 4 very mal­nour­ished orphaned boys over the last 4 years.  San­dra is in good hands, as her health is still con­sid­ered “frag­ile” since it will take some time to recov­er from her ane­mic state.

San­dra is now per­ma­nent­ly in our hands, and needs a spon­sor at $30/month.

NEW MISSIONARY TRAINEE FLYING IN NEXT WEEK!

LAYLA SILVA, of TEXAS, will make her “debut” in Moz. this com­ing Thursday.

Lay­la, age 20, is giv­ing a year of her life (or maybe more, she says) to come help me out with orphan man­age­ment and the children’s programs.

This young lady says “God spoke to her about com­ing to help a full THREE MONTHS before we asked for help”.  Her parent’s and church are total­ly behind her on this, and agreed to spon­sor her.

Her arrival has been delayed, as she had to get her pass­port and visa which took sev­er­al months.  I’ve known Lay­la for over 5 years, as she “inter­viewed” with me at age 15, when I vis­it­ed her church in the Waco, TX area.  She’s a “coun­try girl” with a great heart for peo­ple, so I look for­ward to “show­ing her the ropes”.

This Busy Bun­ny needs to get back to work, so keep those prayers coming.

OUR TRIP TO EADENWILD

DE BUNNY, A HORSE, AND LOTS OF “DEVINE APPOINTMENTS” WITH GOD’S CREATION!

Rid­ing a horse through a game park is the per­fect way to see the ani­mals “up close and personal”.

No motor sounds to alert the ani­mals, just the clip clomp of the hors­es hooves (which all hoofed ani­mals make, so they pay no atten­tion to it).  This allowed me to walk my horse up to with­in 40 to 60 yards/meters of most of the ani­mal herds before they knew I was there.

My fun­ni­est moment:  I rode up to with­in 40 yards/meters of 2 large RED HARTEBEAST bucks in an intense fight (males are the size of a small horse).  No sound was being made except the click­ing of their horns as they wres­tled head to head with lots of grunt­ing as they shoved each oth­er for position.

After 3 min­utes of watch­ing them bat­tle it out, my horse snort­ed, freez­ing them in their tracks.  If only I had a pho­to of their faces when they unhooked their horns, giv­ing us that shocked look that clear­ly stat­ed “YIKES, A HUMAN!!!!”.

My horse was danc­ing a jig as they took off at full speed.   All I saw was 2 tails dis­ap­pear­ing in the bush­es as I calmed my horse who want­ed to run in the oppo­site direction!

Why no cam­era?  Well, my love­ly mount, SASSY, didn’t even like the bleep of a cell phone, (she danced a lot at strange sounds), so tak­ing a pho­to from horse­back was not pos­si­ble, for I don’t like get­ting dumped and hav­ing to walk home.

Sun­day morn­ing, dawned with deep fog and poor vis­i­bil­i­ty of about 150 yards/meters.  But that meant the ani­mals couldn’t see me so eas­i­ly, so Sassy and I were able to get very close before herds of Wilde­beast scat­tered with their cute baby calves.

I then rode off onto a game trail, up into the hills, and was well reward­ed for pick­ing my way through the rocky ter­rain in the fog.

THREE MAGESTIC KUDOS (2 males after 1 female) star­tled me and my horse at the local water­ing hole.  They ran up the ridge, but when I tried to cross the shal­low stream to fol­low them, Sassy refused.  Just a few feet away on my left, lay a Blue Wilde­beast car­cass, dead about 2 months.  My horse want­ed noth­ing to do with it, so to pre­vent get­ting thrown, we changed direc­tions and went in search of oth­er game.

When I returned to home base,  I told the own­er, Elsabe, and she took all of us in her jeep, includ­ing her ranch man­ag­er, to fetch it.  That meant back track­ing on foot into the hills, but I locat­ed it and Judas, the ranch man­ag­er, drug it out, since it was just hide and bone (but it still stunk).  This was one that hunters in July had wound­ed, but was unable to track down, for it was far from where they shot it.

NOTE:  My abil­i­ty to not get lost in the bush, and how to trav­el by land­marks, tru­ly amazed my host­ess and Judas, the ranch man­ag­er.  (Just basic sur­vival in Moz. where NO ROAD SIGNS exist.)  They told me the norm for them was to have to go find all their lost guests who “thought” they could find their way home.  I can’t take all the cred­it, for any good ranch horse always knows her way home. Tee Hee.  Say “HOME” to my dear Sassy, and you bet­ter be well seat­ed and have a firm grip on the reins, or she will bolt for the barn!

NO FEAR, my dears, for Bush Bun­ny is a very expe­ri­enced rid­er and Sassy was a refresh­ing chal­lenge.  I love a horse with some spunk!

HIGHLIGHT OF THE TRIP was spot­ting the “elu­sive” GIRAFFES!  Five in total were locat­ed. Two young ones, approx­i­mate­ly 1 and 2 year old young­sters still with their moth­er, and they were a delight to watch.  The Giraffe is my favorite African Ani­mal, as no oth­er has that beau­ti­ful rock­ing horse gate. Their beau­ty in the wild is a won­der to see.

Need­less to say, EDENWILD, is a mag­nif­i­cent game farm where I was allowed to wan­der on foot and horse­back to my heart’s con­tent.  A 1000 hec­tars (2,500 acres), right across from the famous HANGLIP MOUNTAIN (1,700+meters high/5000+feet) in the Water­berg Moun­tain Range.  The Hanglip Moun­tain boasts a PAR 1 GOLFING CHALLENGE.  Hit the ball from the T‑off on top of the moun­tain into the 19th hole on the golf course below, and win a Mil­lion Dollars!

Those who try it pay for a heli­copter ride to the top of the moun­tain, for that is the only way to get up there.  The winds were so strong at the foot of the moun­tain, that I can see why no one has ever won that prize.  It must have been hur­ri­cane force up on top!

JESUS GAVE DE BUSH BUNNY A SUPER HOLIDAY, A GREAT REFRESHING, MANY NEW FRIENDS AND UNFORGETTABLE MEMORIES.

Rid­ing alone in the silent bush for over 5 hours in 3 days, as well as sev­er­al long hikes, gave me the best “Qui­et Times” I’ve ever had with our Lord.  Noth­ing like being sur­round­ed by God’s beau­ti­ful cre­ation to “enter in and feel His presence”.

LOAD’EM UP AND MOVE EM OUT! KEEP THOSE TRUCKS A ROLL’IN!

WEDNESDAY found us “loaded to the max” with corn and beans as our big trucks and 2 pick­ups moved out at dawn (5:30a.m.) with 2 teams of 12 men each.  My team was off to Kwe Kwe, 30km or 18 miles into the bush.   Capena’s team trav­eled to Tuane (Ti-wan-ee), just 9 miles out of town.  YOUR FOOD GIFTS BLESSED 200 wid­ows and the 604 orphans from the 9 vil­lages who live in those 2 areas.

 Granny shows up all the young folks by walk­ing 9km (5.4 miles) to get food for her and her orphaned grandchildren.

I take my hat off to these super tough women, who out­last the younger folks.

THURSDAY, we dis­trib­uted to over 150 wid­ows and 300+ orphans in the Bala­ma area.

“HAY, you have my bucket.”

Our men then reloaded the trucks with max­i­mum loads for Friday’s give out.

FRIDAY, the 7 vil­lages in the Mavala (Man­go Tree Church) area received corn and beans.  159 wid­ows host 434 orphans in those 7 villages.

Most of the chil­dren come to the give outs, which hap­pen once a month in the dry sea­son.  Car­l­i­tos Jorge did a great job of deliv­er­ing the AWANA based drama/devotion at each give out.   This week’s title was “How God cares for His chil­dren”.  The peo­ple loved it!

PLANTING ONLY FOOD INTO THE HANDS OF THE HUNGRY IS MEANINGLESS UNLESS YOU FEED THEIR SPIRIT TOO.

EMPOWERING THE CHILDREN TO BECOME INDEPENDENT

ORPHANS IN NEED OF NEW FIELD HOES AND MACHETTES (PANGAS).

FOUR YEARS AGO we were blessed with a gift to buy tools so the old­er orphans could plant their own fields.

These hard work­ing chil­dren now pro­vide their own food for 6 months of the year.  (We pro­vide the balance).

Their tools are now worn out and many of the orphans who have joined us since then have lit­tle to work with.

We have been BLESSED with a gen­er­ous gift from RSA to buy these tools for 75 orphan fam­i­lies, leav­ing 625 fam­i­lies with­out tools.

$10 (R120) buys a large size Farm­ing Hoe AND a Machette or Pan­ga, as it is called in South Africa.

TEACH A MAN TO FISH AND HE WILL FEED HIMSELF.  GIVE THEM FARMING TOOLS AND THEY WILL RAISE THEIR OWN FOOD.

GOING THE EXTRA MILE TO HELP A FRIEND

Hagipe, a friend and Bala­ma busi­ness­man, called me when I returned from S. Africa.  He asked if there was any­thing spe­cial I need­ed to help me with my lim­it­ed diet dur­ing the next 6 weeks.  I told him the only thing need­ed, but not avail­able, was AVOCADOS.  Since this is the end of their grow­ing sea­son in Moz., I had not found any in Pem­ba upon my return.

He told me he would check in Nam­pu­la, the city 7 hours dri­ve south of Bala­ma, as that is where the Avos grow in north­ern Moz.   Last Sat­ur­day, Hagipe called to say none were avail­able in Nam­pu­la, so I thanked him, and thought no more of it.  I’d make do with what foods I had on hand.

UNKNOWN to me, Hagipe called some­one in Maputo City, the Nation­al Cap­i­tal of Moz. that is a 3 day dri­ve from Bala­ma.  His friend orga­nized 15 Avo­ca­dos, packed them in a plas­tic buck­et, boxed and shipped them BY AIR FREIGHT to Pem­ba.  Hagipe called me late Wed. after­noon to see if I was home.  He said he was bring­ing me a gift of AVOCADOS, and would be there Thurs­day morn­ing.  When he showed up and told me how he had obtained them, I was so over­whelmed, that I had tears in my eyes.

All I could think of was the Bible sto­ry of the man who car­ried his bur­den the extra mile.  Hagipe is a mod­ern day exam­ple of what Jesus expects all of us to do for one another.

LOVE KNOWS NO BOUNDS LIKE A FAMILY WHO CARES

Aunt Nazare­na bot­tle feed­ing baby Mezies for the first time.

MEZIAS, a new born baby boy, lost his moth­er in child birth.  (Death in child birth is the 3rd largest killer of mother’s in our area).

His aunt and uncle brought him to our door late Wed. after­noon.  They’d just walked in from Sir­im­u­la Vil­lage, 37 km away, (22 miles) to ask for help.

Sir­im­u­la is where most of the corn is grown that feeds our orphans, so out assis­tance pro­grams to orphaned babies is well known.

Where is Mezias’ father, I asked?  They told us he had died from an unknown sick­ness just before Mezias’ birth.  They were the only fam­i­ly he has left.

I praise the Lord that Mezias has a fam­i­ly who tru­ly loves and cares for him.  Both Aunt and Uncle lis­tened and repeat­ed the instruc­tions we gave them for bot­tle feed­ing Mezias. My staff was thrilled that this fam­i­ly seemed to tru­ly under­stand the impor­tant of “doing it right”.

Because most Moz. babies are breast fed, the aver­age moth­er, espe­cial­ly one liv­ing in a remote vil­lage, have nev­er seen any­one bot­tle feed a baby.  This next week is crit­i­cal for Mezias, for if the Aunt doesn’t boil the water before mix­ing the dry milk pow­der in the bot­tle, the bac­te­ria in the local well water could cause Mezias to  per­ish from the #1 killer in Africa:  DYSENTERY.

BUSH BUNNY HOPPING AT FULL STRENGTH AGAIN
BIOPIES WERE ALL NEGATIVE! Praise the Lord!
Will be on restrict­ed diet for 6 weeks to allow my sys­tem to heal from the infection.
No wheat, corn, or dairy foods (booo! ).  Noth­ing tests my will pow­er more than being in the land of plen­ty, includ­ing ice cream and cheese, and then be told to not eat any of it. Pure torture!
BBB FLIES BACK TO MOZ. ON MONDAY, AUG. 17TH
Been great 2 weeks here, and I am thrilled to have heard from many friends while here.
I miss my Moz. Fam­i­ly, and will be hap­py to get back to them tomorrow.
CHURCH CAMP IN THE MOUNTAINS
Went to a Grace Out­reach Wom­an’s Camp last week­end, and had a blast wor­ship­ping, fel­low­ship­ping, and mak­ing new friends.
God knew that was exact­ly what I need­ed, but the lack of trans­porta­tion for the 90 min. Dri­ve to the camp, looked impossible.
BUT NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD!
  Elz­abe took me half way and we were met by 2 mem­bers of the camp staff who glad­ly picked me up in exchange for a few of my African Adven­ture sto­ries as we drove to the meeting.
I was treat­ed like roy­al­ty, and giv­en a tes­ti­mo­ny time to speak to the woman who had no idea who I was.
Refreshed and ener­gized is what best describes me when I left the next day.
I also received an invi­ta­tion to speak at the next wom­an’s camp Feb. 5th.
BUSH BUNNIES HAVE NO SNOW SUITS
The cab­ins were just above freez­ing that night with NO HEATERS, for this is a moun­tain camp­site which serves as a sum­mer camp for kids.
BUT! Three lay­ers deep in cloth­ing, wear­ing my ALL AROUND COWBOY JACKET all night INSIDE a sleep­ing bag, this bun­ny was nice and toasty.
Get­ting out of bed at dawn was not fun, for I nev­er was the polar bear type.
It will be sum­mer in Feb., PTL!

FROZEN BUNNY IN SOUTH AFRICA ON THE MEND
This pic­ture of The Bush Bun­ny is from our files.
It hit 32F, (0 C) each night for my 1st week­end. Had to buy ther­mals, as Bush Bun­nies are not equipped with snow suits.
Analy­sis on gall blad­der proved it was doing great! So where is this pain com­ing from? CT scan showed colon prob­lems, and sure enough, colono­scope revealed an infec­tion through­out the colon. Am on antibi­otics and recov­er­ing nicely.
Will get final treat­ment instruc­tions this com­ing Thurs­day when biop­sies results revealed.
I praise the Lord surgery is not need­ed for any of this!
All is well in Bala­ma.  Cape­na keeps me informed dai­ly by Txt and phone when needed.
The new churches/Bush Bible Schools in Namuno are grow­ing, along with our Awana Chil­dren’s pro­grams in 3 Districts.
Some Awan groups are up to 300+ in atten­dance each Sat­ur­day! Adults are join­ing in!

God’s Word is going forth with great speed, for in these last days, there is no time for sit­ting around “burn­ing daylight”.
This week is Main­te­nance Week for me. Tee Hee.
A much need­ed hair­cut after a wild Mozam­bi­can with elec­tric clip­pers cut my hair 2 months ago, den­tist,  and of course the all essen­tial SHOPPING. Air­line lim­i­ta­tions make it hard, but I will squeeze 20 kgs (40 lbs) of Hypo mal­nu­tri­tion cere­al, and “good to have med­ica­tions” into my 2 lug­gage bags before leav­ing on Aug. 17th.

Could not do all this with­out their help!
Eric Dry is look­ing great, and is an essen­tial part of our team in South Africa. He shops for us, and deliv­ered the Hypo our babies so depend on for great health. He also got me this tablet and con­nect­ed it to WIFI, so I could write you.
I am being host­ed in the home of my great friend, Elz­abe Barnard. She has trans­port­ed me to all these tests and been by my side through it all this week. Help­ing peo­ple get things done is her call­ing, and a vital one it is!
So keep them in prayer, and me too, as I pre­pare to wrap up this trip in the next 7 days.

PORTUGUESE BIBLES/TRACTS A RARE COMMODITY IN MOZAMBIQUE

Nelius Franken of Cape Town, S. Africa, brings 15 BOXES of Por­tuguese tracts and and 2 BOXES of BIBLES as a gift to the peo­ple we min­is­ter too.  This great­ly need­ed for the 60 new stu­dents who have enrolled for our BUSH BIBLE SCHOOL in Namuno Dis­trict with Teacher/Evangelist Alberto.

But Cat­tle and Sheep Ranch­er, Nelius Franken, spends over 30 days each African win­ter (June/July), deliv­er­ing invalu­able Por­tuguese tracts and Bibles to remote areas like ours.  I was great­ly sur­prised last Sun­day after­noon when he drove up, as he had lost my phone num­ber and couldn’t let me know he was com­ing.  After a quick unload­ing, we sat down to sup­per and great Chris­t­ian fel­low­ship, as he had to hit the road at 5:30a.m. the next morning.

THOUSANDS will ben­e­fit from this great lit­er­a­ture about Jesus Christ.

The day before when Pas­tor Alber­to left to start 2 Bush Bible Schools, I was only able to send SIX BIBLES (1/church) for the 830 new believ­ers, because our sup­ply was almost gone.

GOD IS NEVER LATE!  He knew the need, and had them on the way long before the gospel was ever pre­sent­ed to these 6 bush villages.

PEANUT HARVEST ALMOST NON EXISTENT THIS YEAR

We asked Jes­sus for peanuts, and they are rolling in , one bag at a time.

MUCH THANKS to the vil­lage women will­ing to walk sev­er­al miles with a bag of peanuts on their heads so that our kids can have peanuts in their corn por­ridge for break­fast.  Peanuts are 1 of only 2 veg­etable pro­tein sources we have, and are con­sid­ered a great treat, even when the har­vest is good.  Cur­rent­ly, we have 30 bags and we need 60.  We asked God to pro­vide it, and it is rolling in, 1 bag at a time.

30 TONS OF CORN AND BEANS FEEDS OVER 1,800 ORPHANS AND WIDOWS THIS WEEK

   Mas­ter Car­pen­ter Mario, 62 years old, hard at work in our car­pen­try shop.  In the last 10 years, he’s made almost every door, win­dow, and table for the entire mis­sion sta­tion.  Sit­ting on the floor is their favorite work place.  Mario con­vert­ed from Islam to Chris­tian­i­ty after 6 years of lis­ten­ing to morn­ing devo­tions at our mis­sion station.

Our trucks have been rolling, rolling, rolling, as we spent all of Wed., Thurs­day, and Fri­day doing a mas­sive food give out to hun­gry orphans and wid­ows.  The poor har­vest has affect­ed the whole dis­trict, so the chil­dren have already run out of food from their fields.  We will dis­trib­ute to the last 2 vil­lages on Mon­day, to com­plete the give out till first part of September.

Sun up is 6a.m. and the swings are swing­ing by 7 each morn­ing!  Nev­er too cold to have a lit­tle fun.

BUSH BUNNY GOING TO SOUTH AFRICA, AUG. 1ST

Had my year­ly phys­i­cal and need a bit of main­te­nance as the ole Gall Blad­der is not lik­ing me very much.  I’ll have it checked out, but need a mir­a­cle heal­ing or it will have to be removed.

Prayers for a fast recov­ery are appre­ci­at­ed, as laparo­scop­ic surgery is nor­mal­ly a 7 day recov­ery.  Plan to be back in Moz. (after a bit of shop­ping and hope­ful­ly some great food) by August 17th.  I’ve been on a bland, no fat diet for the last 30 days and I can tell you, it is BORING!

Cape­na and our staff will hold down the pro­gram while I’m gone.  Keep us all cov­ered in prayer, as it is a big respon­si­bil­i­ty for him to take on total lead­er­ship of our children’s programs.

CAPENA RESCUES MOTHER HAVING TRIPLETS!

At 3pm Wed., I received a call from the Bala­ma Hos­pi­tal Admin­is­tra­tor beg­ging our assis­tance to fetch a moth­er in dif­fi­cult labor.  Their only ambu­lance was in route to Pem­ba, tak­ing patients to the State Hospital.

Cape­na, our Office Admin­is­tra­tor, raced off to fetch this moth­er in dis­tress in the Nama­ra Vil­lage, 7 miles (14 km) away.  Upon arrival, 1 baby had been born, and he said it was obvi­ous there was anoth­er baby that was breach.  Jesus answered our prayers for this woman and her lit­tle ones, as He direct­ed the hands of the new Doc­tor in Bala­ma.  The Doc­tor, with the Lord’s help, worked a mir­a­cle by TURNING THE BABY IN UTERO so that it was born with­out a C‑section.  C‑sections can only be done in the Region­al Hos­pi­tal in MONTEPUEZ, 30 miles (60 km) away.  He knew this lit­tle one would not last long enough to make that trip. Lit­tle did any­one know, there was a THIRD INFANT patient­ly wait­ing for his sib­ling to get out of the way!

  Thurs­day morn­ing, the Hos­pi­tal Admin­is­tra­tor called again, ask­ing for 3 baby bot­tles and milk for­mu­la.  All 3 are “hang­ing in there”.

The moth­er and her hus­band are mem­bers of our Nama­ra church.  Once they are released, we will blessed them with what­ev­er sup­port they need to keep their 3 lit­tle ones healthy.

SATURDAY, 7a.m.:  Where are our kids?  Noth­ing like a Super Slide Ride for some ear­ly morn­ing fun!

PASTOR ALBERTO OFF TO THE BUSH.  BIBLE SCHOOLS TO BEGIN IN AUGUST

 Pas­tor Alber­to trav­el­ing back to Namuno to open 2 Bush Bible Schools using Inter­na­tion­al Vic­to­ry Bible Insti­tute Curriculum.

60 new con­verts eager­ly await his arrival this week.

After hav­ing such a warm wel­come in 6 vil­lages, many of the 830 new believ­ers will now sign up to study the Bible with Pas­tor Alber­to as their teacher.

Pas­tor Alber­to returned home last week to rest and refresh, as well as get the much need­ed sup­plies for the Bible Schools.

We sent him off with note­books, pens, and New Tes­ta­ments for those who can read and write.  Illit­er­a­cy is about 85% in these villages.

He plans to start 2 Bible Schools in cen­tral areas so that sev­er­al vil­lages can join him in one loca­tion.  Will keep you post­ed on how it goes.

BUILD A VILLAGE CHURCH FOR $160!

The 830 new con­verts in these 6 vil­lages of Namuno will cut and haul the fence posts,  and do all the work need­ed to build each of the 6 grass roofed churches.

Bam­boo and grass must be bought as it doesn’t exist in that area.

Each church took up an offer­ing to help with the costs, but it is far from enough.

Each $160 gift will pur­chase 100 large bun­dles of grass, and 25 bun­dles of bamboo.

Each roof will be 12 feet wide (4 meters) and 45 feet (15 meters) long.

If you’d like to help with any size gift,  just put church roof fund in your gift’s memo space.

BY WORKING TOGETHER, THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST WILL BE HEARD BY THE MULTITUDES!

BUSH BUNNY RESCUES ORPHAN WITH BROKEN ARM

AS I sat writ­ing this blog today, my phone rang.  Pas­tor Salazar told me that one of our orphan boys had fall­en from a tree in a remote area. (Boys will be boys!)

They would bring him to the near­est road by bicy­cle, if I could send some­one to fetch them.  With it being Sat­ur­day, our “rest day” (ha ha!), and no oth­er dri­vers around, the Bush Bun­ny rock­et­ed off in her King Cab pick-up to the des­ig­nat­ed meet­ing place, hop­ing they had man­aged to some­how splint his arm.

When I arrived, I was IMPRESSED to see the arm WELL SPLINTED with bam­boo and a torn up piece of cloth.  And to think these men nev­er took a first aid class!

We whisked him off to the Bala­ma hos­pi­tal, where the nurs­es at the emer­gency room expert­ly set and cast­ed 8 year old Sandreque’s (Sand-dree-key) fore­arm.   San­dreque is one of the 6 orphans grow­ing up with his old­er sis­ter as the leader in the CHILD HEADED HOUSEHOLD we spon­sor in Nacala Village.

He’s now home and doing well, but I think the old fash­ion plas­ter cast weighs more than both his arms put togeth­er.  Prop­er slings do not exist here, so we made him one from a piece of cloth I took with.

Your prayers for his speedy recov­ery are much needed.

JULY 11, 2015 — GOD’S SPIRIT MOVING MIGHTILY

GOD’S SPIRIT MOVING MIGHTILY:  830 COME TO CHRIST IN 6 VILLAGES

 

In the last 14 days, Pas­tor Alber­to, has been evan­ge­liz­ing in NAMUNO DISTRICT.  Specif­i­cal­ly the 6 remote (unreached) vil­lages sur­round­ing our SHIMWHEELY (Shim-wheel-ee) church.

His new off-road motor bike is great­ly pay­ing for itself as it gets him to places where the gospel of Jesus Christ has nev­er been heard.

The num­bers above reflect only ADULT atten­dance, as the chil­dren at each meet­ing were “too numer­ous to count”!

The har­vest is ripe and Jesus is mov­ing in a big way in rur­al areas!

UNUSUAL CHALLENGES

Last week a huge swarm of HONEY BEES attached him as he rode back to Shimwheely from an evan­ge­lis­tic meet­ing in one of these villages.

He scraped a tree, as he tried to out dis­tance them, and, PTL, was not injured besides a few bee stings.

Only minor dam­age was done to the mir­ror and light on the bike, so we are grate­ful that both man and bike sur­vived the attack.  Our bees are known for killing peo­ple here with the sheer mass of ven­om that a swarm can inject into a person.

Keep Pas­tor Alber­to in prayer for safety.

COLD WEATHER: AN ADDED FIRE HAZARD WITH GRASS ROOFS

Pas­tor Alber­to called Fri­day after­noon to ask help as the Shimwheely Church’s Assis­tant Pastor’s house caught fire on Fri­day.  They lost everything.

The par­ents were har­vest­ing food in their field, leav­ing the old­est child to look after the younger chil­dren at home.  The old­est was cook­ing break­fast for the younger ones, when a heavy wind swirled by, pick­ing up embers from the fire, and loft­ed them into the grass roof of their mud hut.  MUD HUTS WITH GRASS ROOFS explode into flames faster than a dried up Christ­mas Tree!  I’ve seen this first hand, and every­thing inside the mud hut is lost in about 10 minutes.

We are get­ting togeth­er a “care pack­age” of essen­tials to help them out, and will be send­ing it to their loca­tion Sun­day morn­ing.  Pas­tor Alber­to will return with the truck for a few days brief vis­it to his fam­i­ly before return­ing to the bush to dis­ci­ple these new believers.

30 TONS OF RICE IN THE BARN, WITH 117 TONS OF SUPER DRY CORN ON IT’S WAY

Our trucks don’t rest dur­ing food buy­ing time, and this week’s pro­gram was RICE (in the hull)!

We buy it from the vil­lagers, straight from their fields locat­ed under MAKU MOUNTAIN, just 12 miles away.  Maku is the tallest moun­tain in all of Mozam­bique, and looks just like a huge set of Micky Mouse Ears.

Busy week ahead for sure, but then the barns will be full.

August begins dis­tri­b­u­tion time, when all that has come in, will then go out to the orphans in need.

Baby Soz­in­ho and Fos­ter Moth­er Fati­ma, came bun­dled up to receive addi­tion­al baby food today.  Soz­in­ho now weighs 9.9 lbs (4.45kg) at 6.5 months.

51F AND WINDY, NOT FUNNY WHEN THAT IS BEDROOM CONDITIONS AT 4 A.M.

  Bun­dled Bun­ny is a bet­ter name for me these days as I usu­al­ly wear 2 lay­ers of clothes to bed, and put on a 3rd when get­ting up predawn.

In Moz., we only have 2 “cool” months which have turned into RECORD COLD MONTHS this year.  This week’s low set a new record with temps record­ed at 51F (13C) INSIDE our homes, and a bit­ter 48F (12C) out­side, made worse by a strong, steady wind.

You may laugh, but we have no heat in our homes, since HOT is our norm.  So hud­dling over a hot cup of tea, is the usu­al rou­tine for me as I get up pre-dawn to have time with the Lord, and get ready for the day’s work.  Tak­ing a bath at mid­day is the norm, as it is too cold by sundown.

So while you sweat in the USA, remem­ber that Bush Bunny’s do NOT come with Snow Suits!
